Calling A Dog Off A Run...

Recommended Posts

I would think its a risky thing to do ,especially with a sighthound type , there instinct is to chase , apart from everything else if it coused a accident you could be looking at a heavy pay out ;)

So many dogs get stolen from in front of shops: don't do it Gaz: not worth the risk, no matter how loyal and well trained she is. Plus, dog off lead in town, no matter how steady: accident waiting to

ive seen walking by the shop putting the dogs in there kennels then walking back to the shop i wont even tie them up at the front of a shop

Someone will be away with it one day.....

I would rather the dog be on a lead than try to call it off in a dangerous place

I can't remember the last time my bitch went on a lead. She follows me to tesco 2 mile down the road and then sits outside waiting for me

Someone will be away with it one day..... :hmm:

And I might get hit by a bus :hmm:

Does your dog not react to cats Gaz? mine would probably walk to heal walking down the road but if a cat ran across she'd be on it before I could even react. I would never in a million years risk walking along a road with a lurcher off the lead.

I got a dog here walks most place no need for a lead bombproof with cats waits at roads will ignore people with food. As for calling them off if you can do that I think it shows how much heart the dog truly has .......

Yup, even in 'nice' towns like Cambridge, lurchers have been stolen when tied up outside shops: still see it in my village at the local shop despite the fact that dog theft is well publicised nowadays: mostly old fat Labs and lap dogs though.

This thread wasn't about me walking the dog to the shops folks.

I used that as an example to point out that generally I don't need a lead for the bitch - in response to the lad who said she should of been on a lead walking back to the car.

I have probably done it 2 or 3 times late at night when it's quiet and she's been in the house and I've been going the shop and she's just come out the door with me so I've said "come on then".

Rob if she saw a cat she would look at me as much to say "can I?" And I would tell her to leave it.

you seriously have no idea how many scum bags are walking about pal!!! there are people that walk about looking for thieving opportunities....you're leaving a dog outside a shop that a scummer could breed and pump out a litter worth hundreds in no time, they're not arsed that it's your pride and joy, trust me!

no point being all cocky about it and then in a few months time sticking a post on here because you can't believe someone has nicked your dog...why risk it?

a dog with both heart and brain is an animal to behold a dog with only brain or heart is only half the story

I could call mine off a rabbit but absolutely no chance with a cat, nearly takes my flamin arm off when one runs out!

There is a big difference in a dog obeying a command to leave before the chase has commenced and once its started, if my dogs are in pursuit more chance of winning the lottery than them even hearing leave than actually doing it. I have yet to see a running dog obey that when in full flight,Strangely enough seen a lads terrier that would leave off stuff when told.

Read the above post. I've done it 2 or 3 times. The world goes round. She's an ageing mongrly looking lurcher. I've took the chance a few times and she was there when I came out.

FFS. I know exactly how many scum bags are about fella.
