paulus 26
as you have seen gaz i have 2 runs on 1 kennel one roofed and one not, shade and the ability to sunbath, also you with a roof come the bad weather they will go out and piss in the run that's covered as opposed to pissing in the kennel. also a real bonus if it snows, no fooking shoveling Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,077
Roofs help to keep the kennels cool mate especially in this weather a must imo if kennels aint in a shady bit and nothing worse than dogs tramping in snow and trying to clear it and rain obv. Each to their own still good kennels just wouldn't take much to finish them off. my kennels are shade with a roof what a difference it makes in this weather plus they can still lye outside when its pouring of rain which happens alot in scotland 2 Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
Chances are if it was sunny and it was roofed theyd be in the cool bit anyway mate could nock up a wee jump up bed to lie on in their run. Still get a bit of sun but a lot cooler mate, I made mine longer and put the boxes inside the dogs jump up and lie on top of the box on good days so the box serves 2 purposes obviously a roof is a must for this though or the dogs could jump out or into the next kennel. 1 Quote Link to post

C Hall 552
My runs have no roofs on them, my dogs love the sun they lie in it more than they lie in the shade they follow the sun and keep moving out of the shade I always opt for no roof on runs. Each to their own like I said mate but when were getting these temps and your run and box is in the sun should a dog want shade and cool it can't get it, my dog can't be harmed with not being able to sunbathe although the sun still gets in my run and they just move with the sun it is cool inside the run and box so should they need to cool down they can.I had a block of 3 with no roofs on the runs and when you get serious snow and the dogs have went out and tramped it in its hard to get off especially in minus temps and we get an inch or 2 of snow up here you need to clear it and keep clearing it if it keeps snowing. Even with them kennels the dogs could still keep cool in summer as half the bedding part high was brick the rest was shed and it was a shaded part of the garden so the dog could always be cool. We each have our own opinions but I'd rather my dog couldn't sunbathe than overheat Quote Link to post
C Hall 552
Grant its personal preference mate and to be fair my runs are not south facing, must admit thought when it snows its a pain in the arse clearing it up but I can live with that Quote Link to post

Someone will find a fault. This is THL. There's plenty of them big cats by you, one could jump the run where there is no roof and eat the dogs Quote Link to post
