Ideation 8,216
since those early days i have learned plenty and have a great love and understanding of working Lurchers, training dogs to a high standard not happy if i could not walk a dog at heal past game no lead without it running in let alone chasing sheep lol love Beardie border x greyhounds and would love to hear the merits and faults of other base line crosses Sight Hounds have there place but let me here from you Lurcher boys couldnt walk by any game with mine of the lead f--k me they would have it in the bag well done if you can do that Thats the whole point of training em before you run them would never work a Dog till its second summer or a Ferret to be honest, most working stock is ruined before its got its Adult teeth, hold a Ferret back a year treat it like a pet then tell me I am wrong, Skulkers be a thing of the past!! but back to dogs any man and his brother can get a running dog bred dog to chase takes skill to tell them when they can do it and really starts the grey matter up ie stalking and not running at gear they could never catch like 300 yards away sitting just off a hedge Like to think mine's are well schooled....and I probably demand more in the way of obedience/training than a lot of folk....try telling mine that it isn't 'game on' when there's fur on the go and you'll be wasting your time.... I would never work a dog in the summer.....and it appears you would....good job we're all different.... you got me wrong on that one bro, said i would not work a dog till its second summer not that i work my dogs through the summer and i would be able to call one of mine off a run after they started, and to be honest its easy if you take your time mine dont even no there working dogs till there around 12 months and the last of my training is to take them out and brake them on a lead to Rabbits, then its just a case of a little hiss on when the times right Were you on here before under another name? I seem to remember another super trainer, whose dogs were broken to rabbits, and could be called off, mid chase, with a magic word. . . . . Personally I think you are either the greatest dog trainer the world has seen, you are somewhat exaggerating or you're just plain fecking nuts . . . . . Quote Link to post

foresterj 1,096
What purpose does this hyper-control serve in a working environment for you and how often do you need to stop them mid chase, what type of reinforcement is on offer that the dog finds more appealing than the actual chase? Just curious. Quote Link to post

Just curious. its as easy to stop a dog chasing bunnys as it is sheep and just as easy to get them running them, the plus side to this leval of control put in simple terms is that in a dogs early hunting days you can help its fieldcraft no end 1 Quote Link to post
