Guest MOLLY
Pups just do this, one minute they are brilliant the next you'd think you had'nt taught them anything It will all come good in the end but you must have lots of patience, and dont be surprised if he keeps chopping and changing up to 12mths of age or more MOLL. Kat 3
Try and keep everything fun and playful. Just because hes shown an advance in his behaviour and is now slipping back doesn't mean hes getting worse its just what pups do. Keep calm and quiet with him and go back to training him as well as you've obviously done already, it will all come together in time. Some pups seem more devilish than others and will try your patience more than others but bear in mind they speak canine not human and thats how they think... I dont believe they have an agenda for 'lets really nark dad today', its all down to the pups youth and confusion.. slowly slowly catchy monkey Quote Link to post
martin 332
All good advice above mate, keep the training sessions short(5mins)and make them fun, don't over do it.I've got a whippet pup at the moment, and from day one it seemed she didn't need training(toilet wise)as she just went outside of her own,but the last few days 'bingo' back to square one. It's a bummer, but,it's also half of the fun of pups......isn't it?? J Darcy 5,871
if he pisses in your house rub his nose in it and put it outside itll learn fast that way and if u stay firm and patient it will come good just dont let up and reguarly put it outside NO NO NO NO NO............FFS........ DON'T rub his nose in it! once the pup has done his business then theres nothing you can do, such activity will only make a gap in the pups trust in its owner. after meals put the pup outside. praise him once he has been to the toilet. not with fod. every time he wakes up put him outside. grass seems to help them go (maybe im wrong ). keep your eye on him, if he starts to "circle" and sniff then get ready, a sharp " aarrgghh" will make him look at you before he squats, pick him up and place him outside. walk with him to the grass, dont just stand on the patio door. wait until he has done it. praise him. perhaps say a certain word when he is doing his business, so this, in time becomes a pattern. do not make him feel that going to the toilet is bad by shouting/hitting him etc.....otherwise the pup wilkl refrain from doign it hin front of you and instead will only go to the toilet when you are not around. then your well and truely f****d ..... good luck..... skycat 6,173
At 4 months pups are teething and house training goes out the window and they also get very destructive and whiny and generally a pain in the bum: just think of a teething baby! If he's in the house get a crate (indooor kennel) for night time and when you can't keep and eye on him. One of the best ever inventions: but NOT FOR CONTINUOUS USE. Pups in crates learn very quickly not to go in the crate, and also they don't get into the habit of going all over the house. Use Dettol Antibacterial Spray to clean up after him as it kills the smell: pups learn to go in the same place from the smell. Keep training to a minumum during this time: recall, walking on lead, letting him play and be a pup and make sure he has plenty of meaty bones to chew to help the teething. Quote Link to post
