Patterdale Too Nasty

Recommended Posts

show him some graft-if he takes to it great-if not and he just wants to fight dogs-give him the bullet-have had dogs myself that wont tolerate anyother dog/bitch-not worth the fcuking grief -or gift him to marshman

 ---- sounds like the dogs ready to graft -- to be fair I think you`ve bought the wrong dog for the job you want .he`ll be an out n out earth dog imo and by the sounds of it he should be doing that this season could be the dog of some ones dreams but if you keep him he`ll be your worst nightmare ... while your out just watch he don't go to ground ..

If i were you id try get out with sime other terrier lads who work there dogs an see how he is.....if thats not possible right away then get him on rats..it should in some way channel his drive an hunting instinct,an will go a bit of the way to relieving his pent up hunting instinct by the sound of it,till you decide what your going to do with him..an watch him like a hawk till you get kennels up or you could easily end up with one or two seriously injured dogs should him an your other terrier decide to sort things out between themselves ! Atb..gravedigger

most terriers that fight with other dogs tend 2 be useless for earth work, damo.

How many well mannered terriers fail at earthwork? Seen plenty of aggressive terriers that did graft just the same. Owned one myself but they're a f***ing liability & the aggressive dog would have to be special to justify kenneling it....

Agreed.

Some people think the more aggressive a dog is towards other things the better a worker it will be :icon_eek: couldn't be further from the truth.

Often the ones bouncing off the kennels, straining on the lead to get at others are the first to come out when the going gets tough.

The best terrier I ever dug to was a Middleton bred lakey. b*****d for fighting but what a dog to get a result, killed every fox he could get to & would hold his quarry midtube til it was dispatched. Would only sound while chasing. Heard it said regular about the fighters being cowards when it comes to earth dogs but a dogs temper doesn't determine if it'll make the grade or not & I'd bet 9 times out of 10 its down to poor socialisation & training

Hi,i had a patterdale terrier years ago something similar to your dog,as game as a bantam cock, was afraid of nothing, killed rats at 5 months, and at 12 months wouldnt back down from anything, around 12 months he was mad to fight but my collie greyhound put him into his place and he thought twice before he would try his luck again, interduced him to charlie at 16 months and he went from strenght to strenght and turned out a great worker but a hospital case and he would go straight in for the kill and took a beating every time,i kept him for 5 years but always kenneled him by himself for most terriers when confronted to fight will fight and fight to the death,so better safe than sorry, try him with a bit of work but dont sour him to early and socialise him with other dogs while he is still young.
