I THINK THIS GO,S BACK TO A POST YESTERDAY, POACHER OR HUNTER,,, I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF, AND ALL MY DOGS HAVE POACHED, EVERY 1 HAS MORE THAN 100 TAILS TO TELL BOTH OF US HIDEING AND RUNNING I MAY

well thats a better outcome for the dog my old dog will be with me till the day he dies i couldn't pts a dog that been with you from ayoung age grafted its arse off for ya then just be pts when you do

The way I see it is if the dog gives me his best, he'll have a good 9 to 10 yrs with me, hunting, mooching and out all summer going all over the place beaches, swimming, coastel paths walking the fiel

I gave away my 9/10 year old Russell the other day to an old lady,...............been a great dog for me ,.......not everybodies cup of tea as digging terms ,......but would find anything when all the dogs walked past,............and gave me dogs some sport .............I ran him about with an apprentice and I think she will fill his boots in the future.........I will get the number of the lady and keep in contact,.......

this was more my attitude a while ago ,.................but some dogs really have to be put to sleep after there working life as its unfair to keep a dog who is suffering in old age due to there work,.......more so in terriers...........your the best judge to do what is best for the dog...........no different to the foxhounds.......

The way I see it is if the dog gives me his best, he'll have a good 9 to 10 yrs with me, hunting, mooching and out all summer going all over the place beaches, swimming, coastel paths walking the fields, basically living a good quality life. It's a lot better than 15 yrs being a fat pet with some moron who carnt be arsed walking them, leaving them in the garden all day and fed on shit. To me there's nothing worse than an old dog thats had a life of graft sitting in its kennel watching the younger dogs going out hunting, solking and misrable wobbling all over the place. And just like old folks they start to smell abit so no good in the house.

some people just dont have the room to keep retirees

and imo pts a working dog is far better than passing it on to someone unless its a family member or real close friend

I got one retired dog here. He's served me well and is perfectly mannered. I have room here for him and he's still got a good nose and accompanies me on weekends ferreting away from home aswell as the odd mooch local. But the others I got here if they make old age they will be pts. They are not suitable as companions and I'd rather the dog be painlessly pts than bieng denied and punished for things they've been bred to do. Not every one has room for veterans and once a dog enters my kennels it here for the rest of its life. And a good life they have too. Atb
