whippet 99 2,613
I gave away my 9/10 year old Russell the other day to an old lady,...............been a great dog for me ,.......not everybodies cup of tea as digging terms ,......but would find anything when all the dogs walked past,............and gave me dogs some sport .............I ran him about with an apprentice and I think she will fill his boots in the future.........I will get the number of the lady and keep in contact,....... 1 Quote Link to post

Bazil brush 474
The way I see it is if the dog gives me his best, he'll have a good 9 to 10 yrs with me, hunting, mooching and out all summer going all over the place beaches, swimming, coastel paths walking the fields, basically living a good quality life. It's a lot better than 15 yrs being a fat pet with some moron who carnt be arsed walking them, leaving them in the garden all day and fed on shit. To me there's nothing worse than an old dog thats had a life of graft sitting in its kennel watching the younger dogs going out hunting, solking and misrable wobbling all over the place. And just like old folks they start to smell abit so no good in the house. Edited July 23, 2013 by Bazil brush 6 Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Any Dog that works along with me doing his best to please, and being a good working companion, if he makes old bones, then he is guaranteed to end his life with me, lying on the couch, its what they deserve. 5 Quote Link to post
Chid 6,549
some people just dont have the room to keep retirees and imo pts a working dog is far better than passing it on to someone unless its a family member or real close friend 1 Quote Link to post

fitchet 788
I got one retired dog here. He's served me well and is perfectly mannered. I have room here for him and he's still got a good nose and accompanies me on weekends ferreting away from home aswell as the odd mooch local. But the others I got here if they make old age they will be pts. They are not suitable as companions and I'd rather the dog be painlessly pts than bieng denied and punished for things they've been bred to do. Not every one has room for veterans and once a dog enters my kennels it here for the rest of its life. And a good life they have too. Atb Quote Link to post
