man o kent 269
Saw that it was against the law to dock tails in Scotland. So wondered if any of you gents worked tykes with a full tail? Wouldn't it be an interference underground? Quote Link to post

Corkman 944
Man-o-kent, Why do you think people in the NWTF & SACS fought so hard to have prophylactic tail docking of "working" dogs made available to their members and also the shooting orgs for Gundogs? It is legal in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland because it has been proven to be beneficial to the "Welfare" of the dogs we work. I believe it may be challenged again in Scotland? Not trying to upset anyone but not many working borders or Bedlingtons about. Also a thing to consider with both these breeds is they both carry there tails at a very low angle (nearly level) which greatly reduces the chances of injury. On the contary russells, lakies and paterdales types carry their tail at nearly right angles to their back like flagpoles so can get greatly damaged and tail injuries are a curse to heal once injured. Docking is in the best interest and welfare of working breeds............. 3 Quote Link to post
