moonlighter 1,164
Even if my dogs pinned one or it broke its legs, you wouldn't be getting me in there to despatch the brute!!! Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
i am sure that on odd occasions a dog has stopped a red stag but not very often! take a look round a zoo or deer park sometime and have a real good look, get as close as you can and see the fecking size of them, like a bloody cow. then remind yourself how fast they are, and consider the fact that a stag is quite happy to turn and take the fight to a dog when he is in hard antler, and if you think any dog can pull them regular give yourself a good talking to! 2 Quote Link to post
stewie 3,387
the old stag v dog debate is one that will go on forever and ever!!! my opinion is it can be done but it wouldnt be done easily, quickly or humanely........it really depends on your morals........somethings are just best left to the rifle at the end of the day, no matter how good your dog is........ 4 Quote Link to post

freelance 448
To those that said reds could not be taken with lurchers, well its a pity you did,nt get out more and open your eyes before the silly ban came into force. I am only talking hinds and biggish pricket,s here mind you. I have seen big stags run but never one go over. Before the ban and on permission in England at dusk or dawn lads really did floor reds. A lot were taken with the aid of a gutter/dyke or fence line to help capture and you had to be down the field quick smart to help out and dispatch. And getting them back to the motor or even over a fence was a drama. But now the sport of kings has been taken away you non-believers will never know as it only rats and rabbits now so you can only go on hearsay and historical past hunts. perthshire keeper 1,239
well ime lucky enugh to have had a LOT of hands on with reds some if the biggest in scotland too 21 stone 17 point leviathans i dont recon theirs a dog i the country that could take a big healthy stag on its own if the stag was on the hill you would need a propr set of dogs to even keep up with it let alone take it down and hold it untill you got their, ive had to kill 2 very mobile stags with a knife before and its not as easy as you would think i finished one with a fecking opinel ! 1 Quote Link to post
BIG G wheton machine 1,594
I have never seen it done and i won't be trying it mysef so i'm on the fence here.. but when referring to red Stag's are folk on about the smaller younger stag's or the older big brute's that can be in excess of 450lb in weight..because i would find it hard to believe that two dog's of any kind good stop one of them..maybe a lion but not a pair of dog's.. millet that woman in your avatar looks like shes breaking them teeth in for a red stag 1 Quote Link to post
