bullet 125
Spent my first day with my mentor today. Really enjoyed myself. Before today I had never even held a bird of prey. I have watched videos on YouTube of birds flying and seen displays at game fairs for years and often considered getting my own bird but I wouldn't rush into something without knowing what I was doing and until now I didn't have anyone to show me the ropes. It was a great day to go over to his because today was day 1 of manning and kitting out the 2 young male harris hawks. 16 weeks old and not been touched since they had their rings fitted... It was an experience! I watched them have their anklets and jesses fitted and we weighed them and then I manned one for a bit. Well if you can call it manning. Mainly me picking it back upright every time it fell off my fist! Lol. Then I spent some time with his older harris female who is 13. This is me with her... My homework for this week is practicing the falconry knot. So I've been practicing... On the stairs... On the wardrobe... In the bathroom... In the bath... On my missus... the good thing about the falconers knot is you can do more than one, I always do three, try it and keep at it well done on doing it the right way, being mentor'd is the best way Quote Link to post

RIOHH 30
It happens to all of us I got nailed in the face gong in to ring the 2 young harris hawks I pulled out yesterday. She left the nest and went behind me as I turned to see where she had gone she hit me straight in the side of the face, then ran up and down my arm stamping as I tried to hide my face lol.
