penny wise 136
people have pups run them on hard ground and wonder why they jack or aint got nothing left mid season... then blame the dog, I blame the owner, we all make mistakes but surely its common sense... heat plays a big factor 2, burn a dog out in this hot weather. I wont even walk my dogs till 9pm every night when its like this just not worth it... I see people walking pet dogs at 3pm in the day lately, tounge hanging right out, don't think its just lads with working dogs the majority of dog owners aint got a clue...Am out about 11 mate soon as roads dies down abit late at night like you say or four in morning Quote Link to post
salukixgrey 779
I have reduced their exercise in this weather, i'd sooner pick it up when the weather breaks than risk heat exhaustion...........mine are only getting a couple of miles walk on the road at night keep them ticking over, I think its plenty at minute still humid at night. whippet 99 2,613
would be easy to say its young lads that don't no no better but it isn't always the case some people got no patience This post is about coursing i dont start untill end of september any hunting but arabs run there coursing dogs in some right heat. l know grounds alot diffrent mate but lads are going on about weather its the ground for me. Because those dogs have been bred for generations in that heat ... They are born and raised in the heat so they are obviously acclimatised .... Fetch one over here to run in the snow in January and watch it fail ...... you run dogs in the snow,,,,,,,,,,? ehhhhhhhhh I only run the whippet on hares this time of year in all fairness,.................they seem to suit the conditions better and I think its fair on the quarry as they always, well most get away...... lurchers ireland 367
walk on the lead as far as the river its only across the field for me then a swim keeps them fresh and fit, got a phone call off two local lads into hunting the last few year during the week they were looking for a new lurcher as their 11 month old missed one fox and let go of another, typical of alot of lads break up pups and sell them on Quote Link to post

bobby blackheart 1,209
It's probably folk who have gone into the game since the ban just because it's illegal and see it as a cool thing to do. They ain't proper countryside lovers IMO.. nail on head cant even tell you when the ban came in Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
Anyone lamping in this heat obviously has a learning disability..the ground where i go resembles cracked concrete that will break toes and remove stopper's pretty quickly..i think it was last year or the year before i was on a mate's permission in the day time and it was hot like it is now..and lone behold we bumped into 4 lad's with mullet hair cut's running leveret's on fresh cut grass..the same lad's where wearing vest's and sweating there bollock's of so god know's what the dog's felt like.. ... and yesterday i seen several young lad's carrying a ferret box walking and walking a black bull x with it's tongue trailing the floor.. . I think we are turning into a no common sense society..my pooches are grounded during this heat wave and only get out later on at night after 9pm and the only reason they are out at all is because i have a big pond not far from me where the younger dog can swim till it's heart is content.. hily 380
I'm not a running dog man but I work spaniels and if you know what spaniels are like you'd know they can't stop hunting when of the lead so it's a walk at the coolest time of day and lot's of swimming .If you own a dog it's your job to know how to look after them and what's good or bad for them they ain't robots to switch on when you want to go out and play.cos injured dog = no hunting at all or you could just be an idiot and run them into the ground then go and get a new one.! As for hunting this time of year you get inexperienced young animals with no stamina and an easy catch.as said no respect. Edited July 21, 2013 by hily Quote Link to post
