mick1726 0
Any tips on fly fishing in this heat, ive been out a couple of times and noticed no risers, so i thought this was due to the weather, so tried wets and gold head nymphs with little success .I only been fishing a single on point on the river between 2ft -6ft in places usually late afternoon /evening. any help would be great thanks. charlie caller 3,654
Fish DEEP until the water cools down in the evening, then enjoy the evening rise 1 Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
1st and last couple of hours of light in these condition. Deeper shaded pools if you're on the river ;-) Quote Link to post
Nik_B 3,790
Yeh fish very deep especially if it is very bright. Try a sinker and a lure, you should be able to get an idea of the depth they are at. Quote Link to post
mick20 23
As above or try fishing the faster water with goldheads (upstream). Tight lines ATB Mick Quote Link to post
thejackle 1
Depends where you are fishing a was fishing the gryffe the other day at a couple of shallow pools on a wee white parachute and got 12 the fish where loving it Quote Link to post
Jeanesy 0
I find if its pressurised water then a small copper beaded nymph can work better than a gold head. Or a black bead equally. I figure the fish have seen quite a few gold beads flying past them and the duller colour is less likely to spook them. Sometimes though, trout can just switch off through certain points in the day, particularly in hot weather, best to try again late evening or early morning Quote Link to post
mick1726 0
thanks for all the advice ,now its a bit cooler and a bit more water in the fish seem to be interested a bit more, you learn a little with every reply ,tight lines and thanks again Quote Link to post

AirgunGuy 362
In hot low water conditions the fish can sulk in the deeper pools and can be lethargic as the water becomes stale. A drop in temperature and a freshet brings them on again ;-) Quote Link to post
