Astral 253
Aw mate, technically a fox or anything could have jogged by and interrupted the attack so I don't think you letting the dog loose won't have had a massive effect on the circle of life. Bet you made that sparrows day though! Bless you.
pip1968 2,490
bird you should have just let nature take its course that sparrow hawk must have young to feed and used up a lot of energy to get its prey, im not knocking you bit i would have just watched and enjoyed it
Bosun11 537
Ray, sometimes we just appreciate somethings bravery and reward it with a little help. No it ain't natural but that's what sets us apart, for better or worse (mostly worse!). But don't sweat it, that Spa will get another feed easy, this time of year is bountiful for 'em, ten ton of youngsters to snap up, all done without interference... Good job you didn't loose Buck... the Spa would have sh*t itself and died of fright..!

Same here mate, they need every help they can get. No point in folk feeding them, providing nest boxes if we are going to watch them die. I enjoy watching a sparrow hawk chasing but not what you described.
Ratreeper 441
I would have let the spar have it, but I save a young starling being mobbed by magpies one. Partly because it was a slow torturous death and also I was trying to fish at the time and it made a hell of a noise, who know it might have survived to adulthood and I don't feel bad for magpies on a fishing lake, fat buggers
Brewman 1,192
Its one of those conundrums is it interfering or not. It's a technicality but food is abundant for the sparrow hawk and anything else could have disturbed it. You had respect for the hen looking after its brood and how difficult it can be. I put that down to you been a hunter and having knowledge and respect for animals, if that makes sense. It's not going soft, it would be entirely different If it was a rare animal being scared off weak prey say leopard about to down an elderly zebra.
