D DAVE 35
I used a beer making kit about 20 years ago and in truth it wasn't great but I just brewed 5 gal of young's harvest mild, drunk cold from the fridge it's excellent its a dark mild with a hint of treacle/chocolate. I would like to try either cider or larger from young's has anyone tried these any recommendation ? Thanks Regards Dave

Frann 882
Coopers are good, I got some brew kits off them from Amazon and they turned out great
Sternyboy 4
This may seem a silly question, but can you start brewing at anytime of year? It's something I've always fancied having a go at (sorry to thread crash)
Brewman 1,192
It makes no difference just you need a temp of approximately 21 Celsius maybe lower if you're doing lager. There will be instructions with the kit.

mark williams 7,557
hi mate - 1 gallon = 2lbs elderberries 1 lb blackberries 1 lbs oranges 5 oz sloes 7 pints water 3 lbs sugar High alcohol yeast (port style or red wine) Remove as much white pith as possible from the oranges.Put the fruit and sugar in a bucket and add hot water to dissolve the sugar,( i dissolve sugar and water 1st) Let it all cool . After a few days strain through cheese cloth into a demi john, top up with water add yeast. The fruit can be used again but do add a further 1 lb elderberries to ensure a full bodied port. Just 5 x the above for 5 gallons and beware this is a very quaffable brew with real country kick ! atb Edited November 29, 2014 by mark williams

antg 1,777
Currently doing quite a few Youngs Harvest Bitter and Definative kits. Both are outstanding IMO. if you like kits try the coopers stout. its really good. theres some really good kits on the market now for little money. wilkinsons have there own and i've read pretty good results from them. you will improve your beer by making the kits up with dried malt extract instead of sugar, unless its a two can kit of course.
