Its too hot to do shit. . . . i'm . . . . . melting!

Well with only a few weeks (six) to the start of the season I've started to push the dogs a little more on our walks ( and myself for that matter). There well earned rest is coming to an end and Our ev

cant remember the last day i wasnt out wi dog, early morning, or last thing at night, 3 in the bag today, 3 yesterday

Yes....... But eventually you will run out. If you slam every spot as hard as you can, until its dry ..... You cAnt often do it year on year.... And eventually there will be no new spots.

I couldn't agree more. Conservation is the key to being a great hunter. Some of my places will only take one or Two good nights and I have to bare that in mind

That will never happen in one generation
anything is possible if you try hard enough....... And anyway, we have a duty to the next gen and those that follow...

There is no way one man could wipe Britain of rabbits with a dog. Thought you meant to be the cleaver one how could that be logical ???

I'm thick as shit and can see clearly that impossible lol

Where did I say that one man was going to wipe every rabbit in Britain out with a dog???

What I meant was. . . . if we all. . . . . yep, that's the thousands and thousands of folk who hunt. . . . . . . with dogs, guns etc etc etc, go out for numbers and try to take as much as we all can, without thought to the future. . . . . . thinking, we can always just move onto a fresh spot when the one is f****d. . . . . . . we will eventually run out of fresh spots. . . . . . . .

There are plenty of cases around the country, of areas that once held well, being over hunted.

From how you wrote it you sounded like you meant the few not the 1000's hence saying YOU now its WE and tbh I know a fair few in this game obviously only a small % and there's no threat to the rabbit population haha you guys know who you are lol don't you like to get numbers j i thought you did hence the nets. your probly the only guy i heard of enjoying laying 100 nets for 3 rabbits. that says alot of how far your go to get the tally up. there are very few that hunt like jim, maybe fuji/tomo/brick but most others dont catch like these most of us only take a small proportion of what's being bred. And number rise till mixy comes through. I thought you know this being a game keeper. Many farmers articles on vhd and mixy clearing hard hit areas up and crop number going up was only chatting the estate manager other day he said vhd and mixy is a blessing since that's been on the scene dog men have become redundant lol

Yes mate. . . . . I lay 100 nets for 3 rabbits all of the time. . . . . you need to be careful about listening to rumors from those that don't really go out with me very often . . . . .

On that particular day, if its the one I think, the same set had coughed 30 rabbits in short order the season before, and when the dogs marked, it was netted and that time only produced 3. . . . . . .

I do like to take numbers, and I DO hit places pretty hard. . . . . all i'm saying is that when you are doing it, if you are out enough, you know when the right time is to call it a day on that particular piece of land. . . . . to leave enough, that its recoverable. I know myself, i've been guilty of over pushing a piece of ground, and its taken a long time for it to get back to anywhere near what it was.

And you are right about the mixy and the VHD. . . . . . . and personally I think us hunters do a lot to spread it. But thats another story . . . . .

I wasn't knocking anyone hunting, or bagging up, it was just a general word of warning, which should be obvious to most of us, but probably isnt to some of our younger and less experienced members. . . . . . . whilst we're hunters, in some senses, if we are going to pass on the sport to our children and grand children, we also need to be conservationists . . . . . .

Didnt say you lay 100 nets all time haha I didn't even know you had 3 out of a 100 holer I was just told you ain't got much about you and some sets are very large and need 100 nets and you love your ferreting enough to do that for a few. To get numbers up. there was no malace in it at all. but there could easily be. So in all fairness I ain't gotta be carful at all we both speak our mind this lad in the 18 yrs of us knowing each other he's never led me down the wrong road. If you ask him straight to his face he tell ya straight. great thing about us guys like it or lump it no licking rings. I agree to a point at the end we should look after land we have but if you got enough you can rotate all year hitting it hard the times you go there and it does recover. Until mixy or VHD comes. Agree I think we help spread it no different to foot in mouth lol I just think some are jealous of jim/andy/mark for the quarry they stick infront of there mutts

That great thing about this game it all opinions we all got em and have our view.

You are right in that there isn't a huge amount local to me .. . . . . which i feel partly responsible for  That's why I travel, it's why we all travel I think.. . . . . .

The lad you speak of is a sound bloke, and that wasn't meant as a dig at him or you. But like has been said on the fox dog thread, opinions are best reserved until you can judge for yourself  Although we're all guilty of that, especially on here

Yer, you can rotate land, and it works, but more so if you are the only one hunting it. Its not the case for many, so I think some think, they should take as much as they can before someone else does. . . .

I have to say i'm certainly not a jealous person, I don't like all of the folk on here, but i'd rather hear about them catching tons of game, than most of the other bickering that goes on.

It's too damn hot, and my brains fried. Time to go swimming I think  Roll on autumn.

I CATCH BETWEEN 2700 TO 3000, A SEASON,, AND BIN DOING THIS TYPE OF NUMBER FOR A LOT OF YEARS, NONE OF THE GROUND I GO ON HAS GONE DOWN HILL FROM MY HUNTING, IT,S THE GUNS IN SUMMER WHAT HAVE FU#KED 1 OR 2 PLACE UP,,, SOME GROUNDS CRAP FOR DOGS FERRETS ONLY, OR THE OTHER WAY ROUND, SO ITS GETS DIVIDED FERRETS AND DOGS MITE KILL THE PLACE, that's were you have to use your own discretion,,,BUT 1 METHOD DOG OR FERRET IT CAN COPE WITH.... BUT I HAVE FOUND WHICH HIS THE MOST OBVIOUS THING TO DO AND THATS TO FIND A NEW PLACE OR 2,EACH SUMMER, TO TAKE THE WAIT OFF THE OTHER,S,,,, AND THATS WHAT SUMMER HIS FOR, PIKEING AROUND /// THIS WAS 1 PLACE WE FOUND LAST WEEK ,,,,,,
