partridge in a pot 0
as you probably know new to the forum and new to keeping game birds . im planing on keeping some french partridge in my aviary i keep chickens and quail in the aviary with no problems . i wanted to know the following about keeping and breeding french i will be keeping them with all the other birds not penned separately , how many can i keep im my 10ft high 12ft wide 16ft long aviary which houses 3 large 'ish hens and 8 quail ? if i do wish to keep them separately what is the minimum space they require per pair ? what is the best breeding ratio ? if kept in a larger colony how many males can i keep with a number of females ? are they likely to brood there own eggs ? are they very flighty birds ? also what time of year will they breed and usually how many clutches would i get ? shovel leaner 7,650
Hi mate , To be honest i wouldnt bother keeping them in your set up , not big enough , even for one pair . They are a fairly wild bird and easily spooked , they take to the wing at the slightest disturbance and will be constantly hitting the wire . While they have large clutches they are not the best parents , and i think you will be dissapointed . All the best 3 Quote Link to post
partridge in a pot 0
arnt they usually bred in much smalle cages ?? on the gamefarms iv been told 5 ft x 3ft x 3ft is ok for a pair with soft rope netting instead of mesh Quote Link to post
Qbgrey 4,096
i think a large pen would be better with lots of cover, bushes, fat hen,etc etc,if they not they will just keep hitting wire.....a wild bird not good for long term cageing Quote Link to post
