burrowman 6
Hi Folks, I put up this post on the event site but i also want to hear what the members think on here ? I was wonderin would it be possible to build an earth dog trial like they have in America at one of our shows or game fairs ? All you would need is a few lenghts of land drainage pipes some Ts and bends. It would have one entrance and maybe 3 exits, the exits would have wire mesh doors to lift the dog and it could be covered with a load of topsoil.A small charge of around 2 euro to try your dog and prizes could be given for the quickest dogs to get to the quarry. Now heres the only problem would the I.S.P.C.A. allow a pet rat in a cage to be used as the quarry. I mean the dogs can only bark at it through wire mesh and if its a pet rat it should be happy in a cage. The rats cage could be moved away from the door when the dog is getting close to prevent any "trauma" to the rat. It would be great crack and a right little money spinner for the organisers. What do ye think ? a.t.b. Burrowman.
paulus 26
i think you would be lifted quicker than a 50 quid note in a crack den

burrowman 6
Unfortunately lads I think ye are right, but would it be worth even a phone call to the I.S.P.C.A. To "seek their permission" ? A mate of mine was recently at a game fair in France where they hold their heads high and are proud of their hunting traditions, they had a stall there about wild boar hunting where it's tradition to kill the boar with a spear and they even had the spears on display ! But we can't even put on a pretend display of our sport using the most hated vermin solely as a scent bait.

Waz 4,262
A 'few' years ago on the way to a days digging, we passed a hound/hunting with dogs show. Called in on the way back. In the shade there was a few bails and heavy sheets, with a makeshift tube, in a cage in the middle of it all was a an adolescent badger sow. My bitch went straight round the back of the cage, no interest in travelling the tube. Half hour later as the show was closing, they got their trumpets out and a song called 'The Badger' went straight through you as they released the stripey critter. Burrowman, it will only end in tears.
