Really nice write up and pictures. Lovely part of the UK is that area. Just wish i could trust my big lad up there. Iv'e tried, but he just fu*ks off. Lost him for a while every time iv'e walked the hills. Don't bother any more.

You would think it would be quite difficult to lose sight of a dog up there but don't be fooled it can't and doesn't happen..I've seen atleast a dozen different pics/posters this past month of dogs lost on the fells just around my way..lord only knows if they ever get re-united? I presume most knack off on the scent of daft foxes or hares..nearly all the lost dogs are of terrier types so that would be my assumption anyway?..my Pom x buggered off yesterday evening..I didn't and wouldn't have had a clue where to start looking for her, upwards was Red Pike, nigh on 3000ft so that wasn't an option lol..Scale Force the waterfall, full of steep rock and scree..not a chance was I going up there..Mellbreak 2500ft across the way..Mosedale mile after mile of bog..I just sat and waited..what else could you do?...calling and whistling is pointless at the foot of a waterfall and even in the open it just echoes all around probably confusing to the mutt...if you head off out into the wilderness not just the fells you are always taking risks having the mutts run free...Atb Andy

Lost him for what seemed like ages, but was probably 10 minutes on Meall nan Tarmachan 3 years ago. Turned out it was a Fox he saw. Panting like fook when he came back, licking the snow for a drink. The missus would go effing mental if i didn't bring him back. Took him onto Kinder last year with an harness, whilst Tess ran free. Never again. He got too cold and was bad. Not worth the trouble.

Lost him for a short time this morning in the pine woods next to Wells beach. I just sit down and whistle now. One day he'll be gone for good i'm sure.

Thats probably how he came to be ours.
