fat man 4,741
Sometimes its not the deep digs that will test a terrier but a handy rangey spot with well educated quarry in it that knows the score and will do everything to give the terrier a hard time.2 seasons ago my mate and I went out for a dig with a young lad that lives near enough to me.He had a patt bitch that was very well bred and had a fair share of diging over her so we decided to see what she was made of.We entered the bitch at about 9.30 and after several attempts to dig to her we finially dug her at about 5ft with her quarry 3 to 4 hours later with her quarry finially pushed up into a stop. This had been a testing dig for the bitch who granted she stuck with it but made very hard work of it as everytime we were about to break through she let it push past and the quarry finially ran out of places to go and we dug down at the back of the bitch to break through. On another occasion we were out and entered a dog and after about 15 min marked him at 5-6 foot in very soft soil so down to him in no time.Dog was blocked back to release quarry to our surprise there were 6 in the stop all released into a different earth just down the hedge. We then went to let dog on and he was gone and when located was working again, this time at 3 ft and after a handy dig broke through to him with 2 more pushed up tight. These 2 digs were easy and straight forward as the quarry were green and had no experience compared to the dig with the bitch.I get more satisfaction out of seeing how my dogs work on a dig than the amount of game that's holed up in it. 1 Quote Link to post

I agree fatman after a time in the job its quality that counts not quantity, if your out all through the SEASON and are getting one or two quality digs in good company each week and your dogs are doing it as it should be done , whats better!!!!
