baw 4,360
I've noticed a distinct lack of caravans about this year compared to previous years. I suppose all the bad summers over the years must have took its toll. But the highlands are usually a wash with them. I think its more the recession and price of fuel. Gone are the days when touring was a cheap holiday. The fuel prices has a knock on effect for a lot of businesses that rely on tourists.

jonah. 775
for me, my friends and family far from it, we're all getting into the camping/caravans/motorhomes. its probably our ages to be fair, 30-40yrs, been an done all the costa/greece/etc etc, self catering and all inclusive, had a belly full to be honest. i'm in the middle of the country and can be to coast/lakes/valleys/dales within 2 hrs and we love it, more and more folk are getting into it an all, there's some really good sites once you get into it and they are begining to realise that if you let folk relax and put on some decent toliets and showers, you'll get people coming back. i love it, away most weekends and all my main hols are taken in this country, only been abroad 3 times in the past 6 years, havent missed it one jot. and you can take the mutts! we havent really done Scotland yet, cumbria's as far as we've got in the vans, its on our list though.
