paulus 26
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-23308215 dehydration is a killer a fact all involved would have been aware of

Born Hunter 17,763
They were on selection for the TA SAS. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-23311651 I did wonder why the f**k they didn't just stop and knock up some impromptu shelter when they felt heat stroke coming on. I guess they were quite determined to pass selection. Edited July 15, 2013 by Born Hunter
walshie 2,804
If they passed selection, I'm sure they might have to go to hotter places than Wales. Sad all the same.

You would think so, but then these lads were in the later stages of selection, judgement was probably impaired by the shear will to succeed. Death or glory sorta attitude. Walshie is right though, Afghanistan would be a fair bit hotter! I know it sounds harsh but it reminds me of that SAS chap that used to do that civilian selection programme on tv, he said something like "death is god's way of telling you you're not good enough" in his Scottish accent. socks 32,253
This again proves the point that a TA soldier is miles apart from a full time soldier ... Taking on board plenty of fluids is basics when you are on an arduous rout march and something that is drilled into you through your basic training and on into your career ... A mechanic or banker etc that turns up once a week for two hours then a weekend here and there is NEVER going to be at the same level as a professional soldier yet the government is cutting back on service men and increasing the TA's ... Part time soldiers defending the country ......... However these lads will have gone through manned checkpoints and the DS staff at these checkpoints should have spotted the signs of dehydration and heatstroke and pulled them out ... If they had did this on an operational tour somewhere they would not have only killed themselves but also put the lives of the rest of their team in danger .......

socks 32,253
Just read the article and I find it strange thAt 6 of them collapsed as the hill phase of selection is an individual effort so for 6 people to push themselves to that state at the same time is pretty remote ... Reading between the lines it seems to me they were on a squadded tab/run which if is the case whoever was taking that is in a world of shit ...........
