any of you lads work off shore?

 

Ive got the opportunity to, its 2 on 3 off. wage is typical of offshore, it would make my time home decent, home life nice, house nice, family secure etc. etc.

 

However, I want to get myself my first lurcher, and posibly a gun dog when i apply for my shotgun licence.

 

so its something id like to know, would i be able to own a dog and work away a little? I think i already know the answer, although im home for 3 weeks, im away for two. I know i wont be winning any races, lurcher competitions etc. but could i still have a decent standard of dog, and provide a good secure future for my family at the same time.

 

Obviously if its one or the other, i choose the security. But ive always wanted a dog, i dont want to get this close, get my own house and have to wait a little longer until im done working away.

Take the work, you will get more time to graft a dog than most on them shifts.

fella above is right mate, you will be able to give the dog a great home and he can look after your family when you away, works for both you and the dog, soe,m don't work and rarely take em out, so you go ahead get one and enjoy it, good luck if you go for it, security for your family is your priority

Yeah two weeks off is a good run..

 

Some folk only graft there dogs at weekends..

 

If you have a trustworthy pal that can walk them and keep them fit it should not be a problem..

 

In todays climate you cant knock work back..

It's 3 weeks off giro, he's only working 20.8 weeks a year and probably on more than twice the money he would make onshore working 47/48 weeks with only 4/5 weeks holiday.

I changed jobs for better shifts..

 

I do four on three off.. The extra day makes a difference for me.. I phone in sick less now in the winter

Take the job. You could be retired early by the money you make off shore and you'll have all the time on the world to have a dog.

Haha No bob not pissed. Id just hate to get a dog and not give it the home/exercise it deserves. I know my missis it too soft with them and cant even watch me skin anything never mind take the dog outfor a run. I have a few mates who might tho, so thats a good idea id go with.

 

Too many people work onshore and are lazy with dogs, i dont want to come back and the pup be destroying everything and misbehaving because of a lack of exercise, or the bond not be very good between us.

 

By the sounds of it tho im worrying over nothing...point taken, thanks a lot for your advice anyway lads.

Just to add a friend of mine has a recruitment agency based in Malta which deals only with the gas and oil industry, upstream, downstream etc globally. If anybody is interested pm me and I'll put you intouch

Yeah thats pretty much what the rig is so a few friends have said. 12 hours on 12 off...so you come home from work, your room mate is leaving for work, changed, gym, eat, shower, sleep. Then do it all again. No I am getting the piss taken out of me at my current job, when i finished my apprenticeship around 6 months ago, they said they were going to pay me 18k a year (instead of 26) because i 'havent got experience' Yet im still doing the same work load as a man on 26. Cop out. So this is going to aleviate so much.

 

Yeah obviously like i said its no competition between the two. job, nice house and holidays wins over a dog. Its just nice to come back and grab the lead and relieve some stress out walking for miles and miles. Or a short walk followed by a bit of sport

 

Thats a good offer mushroom, word has it that all you need is one trip off, and the others start flowing, but if i ever want to go global (somewhere a bit warmer than aberdeen) I'll definitely PM you.

Have you looked into if there is any dog walkers close too you there is a woman round this way that does it 3 mile walk for 2 quid or even any young kids that are trust worthy cos kids always want money just the thought have your friends got the time I would imagine they would have there own family and comitments and def take the job 3 weeks off dream job that think of all the spare time you would have you could get back in from lamping at 3 in the morning knowing you don't have too get up in 3 hours for work

good idea mate I'll look see if theres one local. Im sure one or two would yeah, I wouldn't ask people who dont own dogs/know the dog and his behaviour. So then at least they're just picking my dog up on the way out to walk their own, and they know how he acts/reacts in certain situations. Sometimes a bairn might not be the best to walk a hunting dog.

Just to point out he has positions all over Scotland, Norway South America, far east, middle east everywhere and no I get fec all for pointing people towards him
