N/east poacher 85
Got my 10 week old pup on red mills at the minute, but going to start adding tripe to his feeds, local country store sells it in 1kg packets, just wondering how much tripe should I feed the pup a day aswell as feeding red mills

I find whole raw rabbit defrosted very good too this time of the year, low fat and enough to keep them going along with raw chicken, or if you can not get rabbit, fish.

IMO a pup that's always fit and healthy and never over weight will have better wind and stamina as an adult. In fact I'd rather see a pup a little light than over weight. As for tripe ? I bet if the pup is being fed tripe in one meal and red mills in another it will turn it's nose up at the red mills. I would have no problem rearing a pup solely on tripe rather than both.

Country Joe 1,411
Remember Tripe has not got the same protein as Beef, Chicken, or Lamb.
Gaz_1989 9,539
Some strange views on here! I'd prefer a fat pup that a "light" one all day long. But each to their own...
lawrence 657
nothing strange about it Gaz, over feeding a pup and actually preferring it to be overweight, isn't doing it any favours in my book.
BIGLURKS 874
I wonder if there has been any study's on the way puppy being fat too a light pup has any effect on joints in older life not just on the stamina effect as well
AirgunGuy 362
Not sure if tripe would be the right thing to give to a developing pup as there's not much nutritional value in it and I would say a pup would need as much nutrition as possible...within reason. Better to give the pup some raw meat with it's complete ie...beef, chicken, rabbit etc!!!
