Keeping a pup light is absolute nonsense ... You need to put as much quality feed into a growing animal as it will take ... You should feed the pup on good quality protein based meals which promote mu

nothing strange about it Gaz, over feeding a pup and actually preferring it to be overweight, isn't doing it any favours in my book.

Raw green tripe is a fabulous, easily digested mixer,. for rearing tiny pups...   Obviously,...with any future canine athlete,...you must get the best into the tyke from an early age, because there

Got my 10 week old pup on red mills at the minute, but going to start adding tripe to his feeds, local country store sells it in 1kg packets, just wondering how much tripe should I feed the pup a day aswell as feeding red mills

you can not overfeed a pup

What you rekon ? A packet a day will be ok ? I feed minced chicken and beef now and then

3 meals a day, if it leaves any then its to much. all pups are different so just go with what you see.

 ..plus it stinks to high heaven.. :bad: and this time of the year in this heat, it would be a night mare... !

I find whole raw rabbit defrosted very good too this time of the year, low fat and enough to keep them going along with raw chicken, or if you can not get rabbit, fish.

Paulus, I used to think the same but have changed my mind.

IMO a pup that's always fit and healthy and never over weight will have better wind and stamina as an adult.

In fact I'd rather see a pup a little light than over weight.

As for tripe ? I bet if the pup is being fed tripe in one meal and red mills in another it will turn it's nose up at the red mills. I would have no problem rearing a pup solely on tripe rather than both.

Not sure if tripe would be the right thing to give to a developing pup as there's not much nutritional value in it and I would say a pup would need as much nutrition as possible...within reason. Better to give the pup some raw meat with it's complete ie...beef, chicken, rabbit etc!!!
