Auto Or Double Barrled

Recommended Posts

Hi

I used to use my rizzini over and under for years when shooting from a hide, but one of the ejectors stopped working which resulted in missed birds whilst I fumbled around reloading. So i bought an escort magnum semi and i find the third shot handy from time to time. The only draw back I can think of is sometimes the spent shells take some finding when packing up.

Hope this helps

its personal preference mate. I would say autos are more suited to hide use because you dont have to break them to load them, but the balance isnt always as good and so some people really hate them because of this.

If I wanted a gun purely for shooting from a hide it probs would be a semi auto though

If your planning on buying one dont forget that there is an extra 4" or so of reciever so a 28" barrel handles more like a 32"

Just spent a few hours shooting crows after getting a call from a farmer, they were decimating his corn, 3 of us in two hides over decoys, I thought that they were supposed to be hard to fool, not today :tongue2: 20 odd corvids, 12 pigeons and a rabbit = I happy farmer. I was shooting a Remington 1100 semi auto skeet and the other guys were using o/u's.

Going back after them in couple of days, at times the sky was black with them, but tantalisingly just out of range :cray:mind you once they caught sight of the magnet and the flapper they were almost suicidal!!

UPDATE: Back on the same field after a couple of the days and they definitely got the idea after the first day, very quite over his field but could see them in the distance mullering some other poor b*****ds corn. Started with a nice left and right then seemed to hit everything that came within range, even downed a crow at 50 odd yards which considering I'm using a skeet barrel I was more then pleased with. Got to go back a couple more times then it job done :)
