Emma Robinson 3
Just a thought... Do you guys have your Ferrets microchipped? I know that there is tracking equipment you use but I am just wondering if you microchip too? I am a qualified microchipper and have so far chipped 3 ferrets but only to pet homes, Quote Link to post

Emma Robinson 3
Usually £10 to come to your home and do it (if there is more than one to be chipped). Am thinking of getting a couple of ferrets myself but wondered if there was a reason not to chip them. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Don't see the point unless you're worried about theft.. Quote Link to post
Nigel1 10
The only reason I think is if they get lost and we all care about the little stinkers atb Quote Link to post
Emma Robinson 3
So do folk who have ferrets all have a tracking system if they do one? I'm a newb to this so I apologise if my questions seem dumb... Quote Link to post
Nigel1 10
I own the deben mark 3m which only traces upto 16 ft down and the same away but a large bell on there collars usually works just as good if you loose them above ground 1 Quote Link to post
Malt 379
The locator ferreters use work with a collar that is worn around the ferrets neck while working and has a battery powered transmitter on it. There's no way on earth an implanted NFC chip could be used for finding a lost ferret, the only thing it could be used for is identifying the animal when you have hold of it.. Quote Link to post
Emma Robinson 3
Dayum so if it goes any further you are screwed! Hmmm think I will chip mine just in case! Quote Link to post
Emma Robinson 3
Hehe yep Malt you are right. I was thinking along the lines of when found it could be traced back to the owner. Alas tracking chips have not been designed yet Edited July 10, 2013 by Emma Robinson Quote Link to post

onthehunt 40
I have my ferrets chipped but as said they only serve as a mark of ownership. I lost my ferret last year and it was completely heart-breaking, he was chipped but fat lot of good it did to get him back as when ferrets go wondering/get lost, they almost never come back due to lack of homing instinct and the many hazards especially for those who live in an urban environment. Can't count on folk to check if a found ferret is chipped as most ferret owners do not chip that said, my ferret never returned but he was probably killed before he had a chance to be found Maybe tattooing is a more reliable method of identification? B.P.R 2,798
lots of pet owners chip their ferrets.... if they do get out..... who will joe public phone?.... well, once they have trapped your ferret under a bucket... they will ring the ARSEpca.... who will come with welding gloves and cart the stinker off to be scanned...or you would hope chipping can mean you get a quick reunion with your ferret....if the right procedures are carried out.... would they help against theft? probably not..... somebody who steals ferrets....also has zero respect for them....so is unlikely to visit a vets.... out of sight....you ferret cant be scanned....rendering the chip useless round here...if a ferret was found....id have 20 kids knocking on the door telling me to go get it.... better than any chip i think its a good idea....it can help..... i get cheap microchipping through the ferret club.... but am yet to take advantage of it Quote Link to post
