Raised Beds?

i want to sort out growing our own veg,every day type of stuff you buy from the supermarket but the soil is in terrible state think they filled the garden with hardcore when they built the houses round here so want to put in raised beds,wooden frame type thing filled with top soil just wondered what type of depth would be ideal.

 

at least this way i can keep the cost down and expand as i need by making more rather than forking out for a few ton of top soil in one hit to cover the whole garden cheers

i have raised beds on the allotment and i used scaffold battens, maybe if your growing deep growing veg just dbl the battens up and maybe the hardcore/rubble underneath will help with drainage

the old boys down the allotments do there spuds in black plastic dustbins ....

let mine go due to back problems -- used to spend hours at it --- we had a big old shed on it --a little bit of lawn and a sand pit and a swing for the kids they used to love going Saturdays we`d be down for a few hours packed lunch -- my daughters 21 now she said to me last week I drove by the allotment to day and it bought a smile to my face----happy days

scaffold boards on mine too, smarter job would be decking planks or sleepers if its in the garden though.

should be able to tart them up a bit,green paint maybe but like the cheaper option
