Craig83 52
Wait on a month or two and see what .17 WSM (Winchester Super Magum) has to offer as you may find its better than .17 HMR. Its supposed to be quieter yet ahs performance near that of .22 Hornet centre fire. Still waiting on a release though. Believed to be in the next month or so. Plenty of vids on Youtube. Ok another dum question, can you put .17 WSM in a .17HMR? Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
Ok another dum question, can you put .17 WSM in a .17HMR? In a word no! .17 HMR is based on a .22 Magnum Cartridge. .17 WSM is based on a .27 Nail Gun Cartridge. You can see the difference side by side here (HMR on left, WSM on right): It's different in both diameter and chamber length. Also, wsm pressures are such that it requires an action with locking lugs etc - essentially a centrefire action. So no conversion is possible. It generates pressures never before seen from a rimfire cartridge which is why the bullet is so fast but that also requires a specially strengthened action. charlie caller 3,654
ok may sound like a dumb question. If you have a .22 LR and wanted a .22 Hornet would you have to go and get another permission letter to get it put on your FAC? not if you have ground passed up for .22 hornet or bigger, you have good reason ie foxes and away you go. alan81 110
well lads I started of asking about the marlin xt17vr then I got very interested in the savage b-mag .17wsm and I would have gotin 1, but I went down to the gun shop today and the gun smith told me that he had being trying to get info of Winchester and savage on when the gun would arrive on his shelf and he recons it will be at least a year so I said f*$" that. the next gun I asked about was the .17 hornet. he had the gun but the ammo was too costly to be popin of rabbits with over 1 euro each + he recons its very hard to get ammo for it. now after all that I chose to keep the cz .22 wmr for rabbiting which is good out too 200 yards on bunnies and I went for a .223 rem for mister fox. im not familiar with the make but it looks good sabatti rover 600 dl with scope = 425 euro. the gun is second hand but in mint condition. any info on sabatti would be great. thanks.
