meldino2005 39
ok thanks for that, also when i put each calibre im after how do i go about needing a moderator? Quote Link to post
rtaylor 1
If you write down e.g. .22 LR bolt action (or semi auto) in one box, then below it put .22 LR sound moderator. Same for bigger calibers. If you need a reason for the mod always say hearing protection. Edited July 9, 2013 by rtaylor Quote Link to post

No experience of this as I don't have an FAC but would it not be prudent to write down .22 Moderator rather than .22 LR Moderator? I understand many people use centrefire moderators on rimfire guns because they give superior supression. It would seem therefore that specifying a LR moderator would narrow your options. So question is this allowed to be just calibre specific rather than model specific? In fact I've heard of people even using larger claibre moderators. So again the question would just "moderator" suffice? Edited July 9, 2013 by Alsone Quote Link to post

walshie 2,804
I didn't bother to be that specific for my rimfires I put that I wanted 2 x .22 rfs and 1 x .22 moderator. That's exactly what it saysd on my FAC. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
absolutely no need to put bolt action/semi auto, just put .22lr and sound moderator, only when you have purchased the rifle do you need to state the action type, and if you don't have any firearms that require a firearm cert at the time of applying or renewing put none. rtaylor 1
I was just going on what I think I wrote when I did mine 3 years ago. On hindsight and from the other responses I would go with .22 rimfire and .22 moderator. Quote Link to post
mikemorton 2
This is quite useful: http://www.riflesunlimited.co.uk/showarticle.php?id=10 Quote Link to post

So again the question would just "moderator" suffice? Some people may, it is not common and very possible/probable the sound suppression will be worse than with a rimfire mod, not better, especially on a .22lr. Some air rifle mods, especially those with acoustic wadding give better sound suppression on rimfires, than rimfire mods, but are not safe and don't last long as the pressures blast the wadding apart. Centrefire mods also tend to be bigger and heavier and MUCH more expensive than rimfire mods! Quote Link to post
Lannyman8 3
just put .22 LR and sound moderator, job done, as above a moderator fitted to a .22 is for that, you can even use it on another rifle technically.. Quote Link to post
