Well if people back in the day thought like that most of these breeds wouldn't exist in the first place!

Just out of interest then, and I know it's a bit of a digression....but what are your thoughts on the humble lurcher? you don't agree with their very existence? not a pop, just curious about that way of thinking.

Its called evolution.......what starts off as a good idea is often replaced with a better one.

I think the lurcher is a cracking BREED..................or do you not class the Lurcher as a breed ?......Its either a breed or its a mongrel you cant have it both ways ?

evolution yes, brought about by cross breeding....is it not?

the lurcher is in no way, shape or form a breed, how on earth can it be when it could be a mix of a dozen or more different dogs?? a lurcher is a crossbreed/mongrel that has sighthound and sheepdog or terrier in it.

So tell me.....just out of interest.....at what stage did the bull and terrier for instance become 1 dog breed ?........1800,s ? 1950,s ? 2000,s ?......when ?

Keeping in mind i could turn a Great Dane into a Chinuaha within 3% in as little as 5 generations ( a mere 10-15 years )...

I don't know tbh.....and it doesn't really matter, either way it came about through cross breeding, that's my point.

good job , i didnt see it i would shot the thing, what a terrible thing to happen to a little dog.Iwas brought up with bull breeds, and we never had any probs, because they were locked up (safe). i

It makes me sick to read some of the replies on here thinking it was ok for this dog to kill someones little pet, to me these people are no better than the clown with the staffie in the article, THIS

well the owner hasnt even got the strength to say no to pies, so shes got no chance of telling a dog not to do something.   In all seriousness, dogs, big or small, can be bred in a kitchen in the ro

Is there a working dog breed that didnt ?......Doesnt mean all working dogs are mongrels though does it.............

I believe certain families within the American Pit Bull Terrier breed in todays times are some of the genetically purest dogs alive in the world today.....that will still never change the fact they came from a cross though.

No! and that's exactly what I said in my first post.....that if everyone thought like you none of these breeds would exist.

Not all breeds around today are the results of crossing.. Selective breeding was responsible for in turning wolves into varied dog breeds in the first place, I reckon cross breeding is a relatively new way of creating new breeds when you consider how long dogs have been domesticated for..

" everyone " as in today........or as in hundreds of years ago ............i could spend the next 20 years inbreeding off a cross they will be the purest of the pure on paper but in terms of genetic inherritance they will be virtually unrelated so are they pure or cross.

Theres always been "Demon Dogs " Alsations ,Dobermans ,Rotties now its the Bull terrier types turn and those massive foreign dogs .Some of these dogs are not even allowed on camping or caravanning sites it just shows how the fear has been put into the general public by ignorant people who dont know any better or are just after another news story I aint saying there arent dogs that are loonies just not quite the amount the media make out .My only dealing with Bull types are through my brother who used to have an old english bull and friends who have had staffies for years they never had any trouble with theirs because they were bred and trained well so I wonder what the next demon dog is going to be ?

There we go,the mighty words " well bred "....................the most over used meaningless words in the dog breeders dictionary....................didnt have trouble because they were well bred.....as opposed to what badly bred ?......i often wonder what a well bred bull terrier is these days.

there is a simple solution to the dangerous dog problem as with many of the other ills of society. we have enough laws to cover virtually any eventuality, what is required is tough (and i mean TOUGH) sentencing. how many times do you hear or read about some scrote with 100 convictions still loose on the streets? create very strict sentences and USE THEM! if the owner of a dog which attacked someone was looking at , say, 18 months behind bars they might take their responsibilities a bit more seriously. zero tolerance. remember the "3 strikes and your out" thing in one of the american states? bloke who got life for nicking a bit of pizza was single-handedly responsible for halving the crime rate in the state because peole suddenly realised that the law was being taken SERIOUSLY.....
