morton 5,368 Posted July 8, 2013 Report Share Posted July 8, 2013 Ill visit the odd FMWTC and hound shows,ill pay at the gate,buy a raffle ticket and the odd quid to enter the mutts,it all goes to a worthy cause and some of these meets are grateful for the funds raised.Any show now with NRLC in it i stay well clear of,the judging is shocking and it boils my piss seeing lurchers and terriers being treated and used like their KC cousins,i care little who owns a dog and what they do with it,as long as its treated and cared for,but when a show is advertised as a "working dog show" and then is riddled with pampered pets and the judges don,t weed them out,difficult at times but the majority stand out more than their purple rinses.If i pay my pound i expect fair and competent judging,win or lose,sadly these types of shows are becoming a rarity now,thus the ever decreasing numbers going through the gates.Ive never found the weather to be an issue,i would,nt run the mutts at a show and a few hours doing basically nothing,usually in a shady spot will do the dogs no harm,the chance to meet and greet old and new,have a social drink and see what catches the eye.Went to a show in the N.East last year,a woman i know likes her showing and works the dogs hard,she as a fondness for rabbit and venison pies and casseroles,we swapped dogs for the show,i got a first with hers and she blanked with mine,litter sisters and both typey and in condition,not all is what it seems at times,but usually is. paulf 820 Posted July 8, 2013 Report Share Posted July 8, 2013 I used to go to all the local shows like the curre ,Caerphilly,welsh ect ,only took the dogs once or twice and never when boiling hot couldn't stand there myself for long never mind the dogs ,always a crack meeting old and new friends but haven't been to one for years and don't like the idea of show dogs that haven't done any work being classed as workers but its been going on for years and will still be going on for years .... I went too a show sunday ,.........it was silly hot but when the prize money was so much I took a chance..............and was thinking that me and the dog could of been eating steak last night for a change......... in all fairness it wasn't worth it in that heat ,.........was crazy those long aired dogs really suffered...........even a show organizer knows not to bother racing.......made me tan look good tho.......I mean sun burn......I must admit I like the cattistock hunt show as you can go walk round and see the hounds ..........and talk about there own drag hunting which really does interest me , .......but yeah I wish I hadn't taken a dog.........but plenty of shade and water is no different than a kennel 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I'm off to a Terrier & Lurcher show at the local hunt kennels at the weekend. It will be a great opportunity to get my young dog socialising and it's all a bit of fun! In weather like this I have to alter my working day ... I will be netting up by 5am and finishing by noon so that the dogs and ferrets can work a full shift but stay on the sensible side of the weather ... That said I will still have a couple of drums of water in the back of the truck to soak the animals if it gets to warm in the morning ... A few nice drinking troughs on tomorrow's job though so the dogs will be fine ......... 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
