NEWKID 27,158
finance-wise, if I had to give any young person advice it'd be don't be temped by easy credit....don't get a credit card, overdraft, loan etc. under any circumstances, if you want something just wait til you have the money. Once you slip in the trap of getting a credit card or something on finance it's very hard to get straight again, no matter how much you promise yourself it's short term, the temptation will always be there. Skint isn't when you have only just got enough money for food and bills etc. Skint is when you're so far behind on finance and credit cards that you're permanently in the red, and there are millions of people like that.....and it's all because they've bought things on credit cards or gone far too deep into overdrafts. I've known people to have overdrafts that are bigger than there monthly salary, it's outrageous that banks would ever allow that to happen! You sound like my sainted Mum - and that's a compliment - as that is exactly what I was brought up to believe, and it's held me in good stead for all of my adult life. Like I've already said, to me the ultimate insanity is spending money you haven't got on things you don't need, in the foolish belief that it will make you happy!! My mum was exactly the same mate, we were skint, proper skint lol, but she owed no one... My Dad wasn't around for a while but mum got her head down and made the best of it... A lot of older people still live by the old rules, if you can't afford it you can't have it... Gnasher: I agree with all your points on priorities and some times you do lose track as your chasing the money, contracting away nearly cost me the lot, but it's hard at times cause you think your providing what everyone wants, when in truth they'd probably be much happier to see more of you.... Like you say it's striking the balance, self employed people tend to find that balance harder to find from what I've seen...

paulus 26
Its a pride thing Alot of people would not like to own up to family and friends when there in deep shit . But there alot of people who would put off getting rid of non essential parts of there life just to save face ATB Cookie your kids can not eat a computer however a computer is now classed as a necessity by the government without one you are restricted as most benefits are now only claimable online and part of the new job seekers agreement involves internet connection to comply this will be even more so with the introduction of universal credit. This applies to all benefits whether unemployed or in employment Who said I was on about benefit claiments on was on about working folk . My dad claims benefits he has no computer I said employed and unemployed read the post, not for long will he be able to do this, also kids at school are at a disadvantage if they have no internet connection even Iran has just issued all of its residents with an email address

cookiemonsterandmerlin 145
I dont understand why people think kids are at a disadvantage because they dont have internet or phones . Theres still the old fashion way of hard graft and winning jobs by word of mouth . I rather employ a well know grafter than some whizz kid with a amazing CV emailed to me ATB Cookie

RossM 8,119
This has been the hardest year financially. Living alone now has made sure of that. But I've managed. Got this fishing thing... When really I can't afford it cause I have Ayia Napa the following week... Another thing I shouldn't have booked but f**k it your only young once. I've always been good with money, always been the one with plenty cash, fast cars, good clothes and never miss a trip away. All changed now though......Even have to buy food stuff in the cheapo section...... Pisses me off!!!! We heard you the first time! You'll not get no sympathy! Bloody I phone..... Lol iPhone? Cannae hide money eh?
