paulsmithy83 567
without some one doing a first cross you wouldnt have any other crosses would you? Not really as alot have lurcher to lurcher just an exaple collie/grey put to pure saluki maybe then put to grey/saluki/beddie and so on then putting said offspring to other type doing the job leads to eventual purpose bred coursing dogs. Very rare a line starts saluki one parent greyhound another 1 Quote Link to post

paulsmithy83 567
Yeah that might be but most if you got all way back probly won't be a first x saluki grey . Many out cross back to saluki or grey in a line not start a line with first x saluki grey yes there will be first x that start lines but in coursing dogs on days they began wasn't saluki x grey first x. It was the hybrid coursing dogs of the time which was saluki free many made up of deerhound/collie/Bedlington bred with import salukis then bang after so many generations the new saluki x coursing animal was born. Now the lines are that established no need to really out cross that often just coursing bred to coursing bred. With after 4-5 generations maybe an out cross 1 Quote Link to post
paulsmithy83 567
But all the best to your venture muka hope it all works out for you Quote Link to post
desertbred 5,490
if you keep diluting something then the benefits are eventually cancelled out and new blood has to be introduced when you start line breeding to type thats when the closeness of the lines has to be looked at as defects will become more pronounced 1 Quote Link to post
paulsmithy83 567
Very true desertbred I think every line needs out cross at a point in the family tree to put in those desired traits. The most popular is going back to the full saluki imo 2 Quote Link to post
dimmock20 278
I think a good first cross put back to a well bred saluki saturated dog would be worth dabbling with pretty much the same as sankey did with dancer she was neer on half x and when put back to a good saluki influenced coursing dog produced some very smart animals Quote Link to post

The most popular is going back to the full saluki imoYou have made sum fair points iv keeped full salukis and x befor but the problem with xs is you never no what your going to get with a first x u do thats if it all clicks but if u look about how many ture 1st xs are out there i would say not many its all a guessing game [BANNED TEXT] it comes to breeding dont think there is a right or wrong way u just do what you think will be the best and the rest is luck like [BANNED TEXT] u give a tenner for a dog and it stops 2 and 3 then you give 500 because of the hype and it skids its luck of the draw iv dun what i think will make 1st class dogs the rest is in gods hands just got to keep me fingers crossed Quote Link to post
desertbred 5,490
usually a good first cross from the right sire and dam has prey drive and a mixture of stamina and speed variation it is down to what clicks no guarantees in the dog game but you try to even the odds a little by knowing what you are breeding from 3 Quote Link to post
