walshie 2,804
Absolutely appalling. One of the worst atrocities ever on British soil and not even a mention of it. Who exactly would it offend if we remember the poor people killed and maimed by those filthy terrorist scum? I bet the Americans wouldn't even host a major sporting event on 9/11, let alone get on with it with not a moment to reflect. Wimbledon organisers you should be ashamed of yourselves. Has everyone really forgotten or is everyone being gagged to avoid upsetting people? My family and I had our own minute at 12.00 to remember as we do every year. Same here .... i remember it like yesterday my daughter was 2 minutes away from the bus in Tavistock Square doing her third ever day of work, poor little cow was scared shitless......sicken me the way we are gagged and told to forget about things when we have to listen to this vile regurgitated Stephen Lawrence f****n bollocks for 20 years I will always remember it as my son was on a school trip to London when we heard. My mrs couldn't get hold of him or the teacher and phoned me at work in floods of tears.
unlacedgecko 1,466
Cookiemonsterandmerlin. This thread is not about you trying to prove some piffling point. It is to point out the glaring error by our "stable" government in omitting to remember an atrocity. RIP those poor souls from 7/7/07 and I hope the survivors can get on with their lives as best they can. Agree I gone off on a tangent but it was a couple of Scots thoughts that I thought was odd and I like to ask why his views is that OK ??? O its that freedom of speech shit you can have it on THL so long as you agree with certain members And Morton on one final note who the Fook do you think the guys/gals get to frontline and supplied etc etc all on there own . Theres a massive chain and without any part of the chain the frontline taking the dirty shitty end of the conflict may as well turn up in flip flops and water pistols . Yes there massive diffrent degrees of risk and you cant compare frontline to backshop shit. Despite what some member think of me when I was at brize norton watching the coffin coming of the C17 it brings a distant conflict thats far removed from being based in safe blighty very much home to you. I am sad you hold such contempt for most of our service personnel whatever job they do. ATB Cookie Everybody may know that the lads at the sharp end need supplying, feeding, arming and looking after, the thing is its easier to work from the rear servicing the lads doing the ground work than it is to do the ground work away from the bullets and still wanting part of the glory gateau, fact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Head https://www.gov.uk/government/fatalities/captain-daniel-read-killed-in-afghanistan http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/7479022.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/7208862.stm f***ing REMFs eh? I didn't realise that IEDs/bullets/IDF checked if the casualty was regular or reserve before impact/detonation. I don't think you can assume a persons full military history from their cap badge or rank. What was yours?

unlacedgecko 1,466
A female Royal Logistic Corps officer? Well, she definitely wasn't front line, so by morton's logic, she is undeserving of respect and recognition, same as Captain Dan Read. And Private Andrew Cutts was a driver in the Royal Logistic Corps. He was shot dead whilst doing the easy and risk free job of 'supplying, arming, feeding and looking after' the lads at the sharp end. Definitely someone who just talks the talk there. Don't forget about Marine Crooks, he was a reservist killed on his 3rd tour ofAfghanistan. A complete Chocolate fire guard. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-10678674 Or Lance Corporal Timothey Flowers, who was actually in a rear area in Iraq when he was killed by hostile mortar fire. His death is definitely not worth remebering. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6910361.stm

Blackbriar 8,569
I'm with Gecko. they are all worthy of our utmost respect, whatever the circumstances of their service - they are all, after all, engaged in the decent and honourable defence of their, and our, country. Anyone who says otherwise is borderline traitor, as far as I'm concerned.

Lisa was a legend Front fooking lineAnyone who is prepared to do the long walk to a suspect device is a hero in my book. I have the upmost respect for all involved in CIED work. Did you know Lisa? Or did you only become aware of her existence after her death? However, no she wasn't front line. According to current British Military policy females are non permitted to serve in front line combat roles, with the exception of the Army Air Corps. Lisa was a Captain in the Royal Logistic Corps. They aren't front line. In this respect she was no different to Captain Dan Read, or Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmitt.

THE GENERAL 1,982
8 years ago today home grown terrorists donned their rucksacks and headed into London intent on martyrdom, the carnage that they caused killed 52 people and left 700 injured, Today is the 8th anniversary of that terrorist attack. Our government and mainstream media seems to be ignoring this anniversary Nothing on the BBC this morning, although they did manage to air a program on how Muslim footballers are having an influence on the premier league. Today is also the mens Wimbledon final . A minutes silence perhaps No not a mention In all due respect the government is fked and too busy planning the same only in a so called justified way ( filling you full of shit in the proceeds ) Lives are being lost everyday and its not on the news. The world is in a mess man and television isn't going to broadcast you every detail on the 6oclock news that innocent children and family's are being murdered on a daily basis because of who they are or were they are from, they have been caught up in a conflict brought to there doorstep, the news would last for a lot more than 30mins If that was the case and you wouldn't be asking why you didn't see anything to commemorate innocents lives being lost at a f***ing men's tennis final ! Pick your head out off your arse or discontinue indulging in whatever it is that is f***ing with your mind. Wake up and smell the real world for what it is. A disgrace smothered in a cloud of shit by power and greed and f**k over anyone that may get in the way or disagree. Take it or leave it, live with it or not, it will hardly make a difference because its out of the general publics hands, or shall I say the innocent people's choice that will continue to die for no reason because they are caught up in a world off shit, not through their own choice, that stands for alot off people, races, religions. Sure f**k all that let's have a minutes silence at Wimbledon! Your ignorance is pathetic. Edited July 10, 2013 by THE GENERAL
