nice to see that, most lurchers make great pets, but when (hot) like now give the dogs plenty of space from people+ kids.Like us all can get fed up + dont wont any body messing you about. its this time of the year when dog bites is at its worst

Cheers for the words. Hot or not, she would only bite once

please don't take this the wrong way ,..........but biting once could be enough to kill a young child,............lets not get silly about me comment as I think I know a dog I can trust with my kids and even some bully lurchers ,..........but one thing I will say is don't take any chances with dogs and kids and don't leave them un - supervised around kids if you can help it.........but I have done before as no ones world is perfect ...........it happens ,...we all leave a dog with kids sometimes if there in the house , if the smoke alarm goes off or you need the toilet, etc, etc.........just be vigalant and use your nouse as the big lurchers what were used preban on teeth , you use to see what damage was caused to its prey with instant death ,.........imagine if it got hold of a kids head , a couple of shakes it would soon be over,.....now I don't want to scare any one , but this weather and with a child tormenting , and especially unsupervised accidents/death can and does happen.....I use to keep acouple of working dogs in the house and after a accident from a tormenting child,......now there in the kennels there is no chance of accidents ,( cat included), no hair and no smell,.......I like to keep working dogs in kennels for my own reasons as there as loyal out in the field as they would be sat next to me on the sofa,..........there is no doubt that they make great house dogs and are no trouble left about the house..............its the old saying , each to there own.....

A big bad hunting dog would not be safe around kids, the average lurcher is,you may have an average jukel and not the big bad un some crave.

I couldn't/wouldn't trust them but I have seen a big bad hunting dog around kids as soft as shite,..........but a big if ,they were to turn it would often be too late with a kid and aint worth the risk imho

My dogs are kenneled as thats the way i like workers kept. If they reach retirement they get a place in the house but only one has ever made it that far.i have a bull/greyhound here whos worked by me moat of the time but my ten year old bro likes him and will often pop round after achool and take him out for a mooch. The dog ritrieves to him and i can trust the dog enough to let my bro hunt qnything that pops up when there out. I could never trust my coursing dog enough though and ive seen some collie lurchers that were right evil b*****ds when deer were involved.

ok gareth that maybe a mistake of mine but you know exactly what im saying..........it makes me laugh when people try and pretend that there not more cautious with breeds/types of dogs.........any dog is unpredictable ...............and the bigger dogs all though the same temperament as any other dog there bite can be far worst .........the bull types are used for there jaw and power/drive and having this on there side It makes me for some reason take them with more caution,........it don't make them any more dangerous than any other dog............but seeing what they do in the field with such tenacity does make me cautious towards there capability more than anything

I have an exact same scenario,....when people say there not rascist , I then ask them if you had to go too prison and they had a choice of shareing cells , one full of black etnic and the other cell full of white ethnic criminals, which cell would you choose....? and 9/10 they always say "it wouldn't matter either one"

BULL SHITE LOL (excuse the punt)

Don't be fooled by his size mate he regurly punches above his wieght and has surprised a few lads with big 27tts running machines. My other half x bitch was only 23tts but she was some animal.

We all had different opinions but I don't trust any dog fully with anything they are not machines they are flesh and bone and every dog can surprise you. I have a dog here that will bite any man who's stupid enough to be in my garden but if a small child is about is gentle as anything. All the best.

I thought you were implying that bull lurchers were more likely to be child/human aggressive.

Thanks for explaining

I think the lines "always watch a dog and child" and "never leave unattended" go without saying and just because a lad posts a pic of his dog and daughter having a cuddle it doesn't mean he nips off for a wank and leaves them alone for 20 minutes.

I would never leave them unattended. Yes I've turned my back on occasions and I do trust the dog to a degree. But never say never.

Not just aimed at you whippet99 but a few lads have said similar things.
