First Fox Squeaking Outing

Recommended Posts

I went out Last night for some fresh air as my little boy was in hospital and i needed to clear my head, i took the .243 with me just in case any deer where about, and to see if my new fox call worked.

I have never been fox shooting apart from with shotgun or used a call until last night, i got a fox call from http://www.foxcalluk.co.uk/ which allows you to use it in your mouth with your hands free and also change the pitch of the call by biting down and by blowing harder or softer... i had no expectations as it was my first time and i was not in the right frame of mind really.

well i got my self into a likely spot, on top of a big high bank so i should be shooting down for a safe shot, also a bank behind that should i get a ricochet.

so, set up all safe, rifle loaded with safety on pointing down range, here goes i thought, got to try it some time....

away i blasted, squeal squeal squeal, changing the pitch and tone, from loud to softer. nothing,i did feel a dingbat..... then again 2-3 mins later, squeal squeal squeal, movement from along the bank in the gulley close to me, i might be in luck i thought, but not believing it just waited, safety still on, then the noise got louder, i could see nothing though, i heard a noise from behind me so stood up, well blow me the bloody fox had crossed the gulley and gone the other side of the bank, the little sod..... well blow me if it didnt get to within a yard of me before it realised it was not in for the easy meal it was after....lol

well by this time i had gotten over the shock for 1, it working and 2, how close the bloody thing got, i never had a chance to take a shot, safety still on watching the tale bounce off into the long grass...

gutted, thinking about it i should have taken the shotey with the long grass, ah well, adleast i know the call works, though i think that fox will never be squeaked in close ever again now...

was a good outing though, and just what i needed to take my mind of things for a few hours...

all comments welcome
