Just Landed Two Brilliant Hawke And Bushnell Scope Bargains.

Recommended Posts

Hello Gentlemen.

Popped over to RED BECK shooting supplies not far away for some .177 ammo for my HW97K. I noticed they are selling BRAND NEW HAWKE SPORT HD 3-9X40 AO IR scopes for £55:00.

Prices for this model Hawke are normally £84:99!

Small and sweet is what I'm looking for in a scope for the 97K, keeping weight down to a minimum on this rifle and, this one fits the bill. Small, compact and lightweight with a very pleasing Matte finish it focuses very quickly and sharply and the measured range marks looked close to the ranges actually focused at :thumbs: It's got a useful, uncluttered little mil-dot reticle and illuminates red/green on the turn of the rheostat side-dial. So with pleasing outside impressions of it, I bought one. The thing I've found with Hawke's I've owned in the past is that;

1.They look great! :thumbs:

2.They focus their sight-pictures pin sharp :thumbs:

3.The SR12 reticles when correctly calibrated in conjunction with Chairgun make for deadly accurate optics. :thumbs:

4.They don't last very long on spring rifles that dish out a bit of recoil :huh: despite their claims to being all-recoil calibrated. Oh no they are certainly not! :cray: Any one else with a recoiling spring rifle found this also? DON'T EVEN DREAM OF PUTTING ONE ON AN FAC RATED HW80!!!. :huh::cray: :cray: :cray:

However, the 97K has been tuned to a twitch thanks to the good tuning works of my pal Andy here and I mounted it up and headed out to Field No.1 where I do all me testing and training. Well, in a word, BRILLIANT. :thumbs: At a zero target range of 30 metres it clicked nicely into zero and put the 8.6 grain H&NFTTs into a neat little hole one after another on my usual 6x mag. After that I was splattering rabbit-head size stones and small pebbles at all ranges with it!

For a scope costing 55 quid new,I'd say that was too cheap and a quality rifle needs quality optics. This has changed my mind on that one at least. It compliments the HW97K beautifully. I'm tempted to say I'd try it out on the HFT course at Old Downs when I'm down next with Helen. I cannot make the meet next week as I'm away at Flying Legends, Duxford with work. Oh well!

How long it lasts? Well, that I'll have to see. But for now though The HAWKE SPORT HD 3-9x40 AO IR is a brilliant bargain worth your time finding and trying out :yes::thumbs:

Following on from the thread about 30/30 reticle scopes. I've found scope bargain No.2; when I went back to Red Beck to sort a chrono test for my HW77 (time for a new spring!); and there I spotted.... A near-mint condition BUSHNELL BANNER 3-9X50 complete with mounts.

Reticle is a "Multi Aim Point" 30/30; meaning there is a thin crosshair at the centre of medium-to-broad cross arms. It's a fixed-focus-objective lens type scope and the sight-picture is pin sharp at all likely airgun hunting ranges with a tweak of focus adjust on the eye-piece.

There's only a slight wear mark on the elevation turret cap but the rest of the scope is absolutely spotless. It looks to have been carefully used which is a good sign to see.

Normal price for this spec Banner is as much as £217 with some dealer sites on searches I've done on it.

I bought it.....for £40! :icon_eek::tongue2:

Hope you find your bargain days too lads!

Oh I almost forgot so I'd better edit this. It zeroed up on my TX200HC .177 like a top scope should and last night bagged a couple of rabbits with it! It's going to be mounted on my HW77 .22 after her service overhaul, as this reticle and the scope's classic good looks will suit her very well.

All the best Gentlemen.

Simon

Ha Jammy is not something that happens to me all that often! :thumbs:

You really rate these Vortex scopes I can see, woodcote. I'm not giving up on trying out these scopes. But no gunshop I deal with is selling them. And I'd like to, at least, have a hold of one or two and a close look to my eye, before I part with my cash ! :thumbs:

I only go mail order as a last resort and then, only when I'm absolutely confident in what I'm buying and from who!

They've also got the Hawke Sport HD 4-12x50 AO IR for £65, I've had a fair amount of gear from them and like most have said very helpful guys.
