Keeping 2 Jill's With Kits Together

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to the site, kept ferrets since a kid, but never bred them!! All seems to be well, but I have two sisters housed together , passed my polecat over them, both pregnant. First one dropped her kits 14 days ago(15 of them!!) , unsure how many the second had. My real question is, from everything I've read, I didn't think these kits would survive, ( was sure mum would eat /desert them) , but my concern is mum won't leave auntie alone- every time the sister Jill leaves the nest box, mummy grabs her ear and drags her back in. They both seem to be feeding the kits, and only the first mum is bitey!! Sorry , I feel like I'm waffling, but I'm basically asking if this has ever happened to anyone else?

I had this happen once with two sisters and will not allow oy to happen again as for some reason had two litters of deformed babies. For what reason i am not sure, it may not have been that they were together or may have been another reason. But for mr personally i would not do it again.

but yes they are just been mum.

Hi Mandy, had a similar dilemma myself, whether to separate the two sisters or not, in the end I decided to separate the two jills and at present are at the same stage as you but with 15 kits!!

I put a loaned polecat over my two albino jills, looks like I've got a fair mix of the two colours although it's difficult to tell this early on.

What part of Kent are you from?
