John Bowkett Tuned Scorpion Se

Recommended Posts

So i picked up my Scorpion SE from John Bowkett yesterday after sending it in for a blueprint and a JB bolt handle Ball!

Although accuracy was never a problem, compared to an R10 (Standard with no tuning) that i had tried the r10 seemed a lot smoother in the action.

Today i have done a little messing around with it at 25 & 30 yards and it feels amazing! the cocking action before was a bit rough and felt like it was grinding just a little bit, but now it is smooth, and feels a lot better quality! And i think the JB Bolt handle ball does just ease the cocking a little!

Also when firing the rifle it is very quiet now, all you can hear is the action! There is hardly any sound from the muzzle! Im not sure what John did to achieve this but it still has the same silencer i have always had with it. John also set the trigger very light! The second stage is just how i wanted it, very light and crisp, however i think the first stage is great when shooting targets but i think it may be just a little too light for me, especially when out in the field, so i may change that but i will see how i get on when i go to my permission tomorrow!

As i have only tested the rifle at 25 & 30 yards i cant comment on the accuracy at great distances, but the groups seem to have tightened up at this range, this is probably due to the light trigger. Also i seem to be getting an extra 10-15 shots before i start noticing any drop but this is from a 220bar fill rather than a 200 bar fill. John told me that i would be able to fill it to 232bar now its tuned and i shouldn't notice much difference between the FPS. Filling it up to 220 bar seems to be just fine but i will test it with the chrono and see what FPS difference i am getting.

Also John Bowkett gave me a sheet of paper with groups of different pellets at 50 yards, and to my surprise H&N Field Target Trophy were the most accurate, followed closely by the JSB Exacts 4.53 that i had previously been using. This was a surprise because i have some H&N Field Target Trophy that i had tried previously but they wasn't anywhere near the JSB Exact 4.53's but now the H&N are near enough pellet on pellet at 25 yards!

Anyway i will post the chromo results tomorrow and show some target cards at different distances for you to see the groups!

AR177 treat the car to a tank of fuel and go for a day out in the West Mids!

John's place is easy to find, a few minutes off the motorway. Just get on the A14, then the M6, M42, turn right and you are basically there! He is a nice chap to meet and I only wish I could have spent more time when I had my Super 10 blueprinted!

You can always call in at the BSA spare part department on your way home (John Knibbs at Shustoke)...
