Dead Eyes 681
I'm not a ratting man, but can't knock those that are - I understand having a passion for the dogs! This might seem a little far fetched, but there's a real opportunity for the right guys here. There's not many a place better to aware people than this forum either.South Georgia is a seabirds paradise. Its also a British colony plagued by rats.So much so, that they've just hit the headlines for the largest ever poison and eradication project. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23143430 http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2013/jul/04/worlds-largest-rat-extermination Contact these guys http://www.sght.org/. They have a £2m budget towards rat eradication and they think that poison is going to work. They'll almost certainly pay you a travel expense and you get a LOT of sport from it.Seems far fetched, but think about it lads... There's an opportunity here. Quote Link to post

Millet 4,497
I would put money on it that they will never wipe them out.. ..and poison alone will only kill a percentage.. Quote Link to post
staffs riffraff 1,068
Be a great holiday that I got a few terriers wouldn't mind going Quote Link to post
Dead Eyes 681
Pet passports are far easier to get than you'd imagine, I've been led to believe. If someone does this kinda thing full time, or for a living, or is lucky enough to be retired then this seems golden. If it was my scene then I'd call them, ask for transport and accomodation to be sorted, and charge 30p a rat or something? Im unsure what the rates are for terrier clearance but I do know what a pest controller can charge just for a feckin' callout!A lot of guys probably clear rats for free, just for the love? Anyway, I hope someone gives them a call - the worst they can say is 'no'! atb Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
Surely they will be plenty of folk in that part of the world to deal with such a problem.. Quote Link to post
stormyboy 1,352
Read the article again folks-it has already been done. I think it was Bell laboratories the bait manufacturers that carried it out. Very effectively by all accounts. Quote Link to post

dublin dezzy 1,023
there response to the use of terriers the trust did indeed consider the use of specially trained dogs for the monitoring of trial areas,to sniff out the remaining rats, however for various reasons the decision was made not to use dogs Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,788
Now, I'm always willing to travel for a bit of sport but a 16'000 mile round trip for a bit of ratting in the ice is a tad excessive! 1 Quote Link to post
