as above disco has decided to start overheating. in the header tank is a load of gunk. question is do you think this is stopping the water circulating properly. any ideas or advice much appreciated

As in oil in water head gasket f****d type gunk.

 

Best thing to with the TD5, is trade it for a Jap 4x4 and never buy a landie again,

Lmao.

Had the same thing in an old range rover wee had for off road......was the viscous fan i think?.. :hmm:

hopeing its not head gasket. try flushing the system and thermostat i reckon first. sounds stupid i know but flushing the system bottom hose off on the radiator and run a hosepipe in the headertank engine running or not???

had it on a range rover, I flushed everything out still the same

 

in the end I took the rad out and took the top and bottom off the rad leaving just the middle

and the vanes were blocked, got an hacksaw blade and cleared the shite out, it took ages

but worked perfectly afterwards

had a mechanic friend have a look on sunday reckons it could be oil pump think he said. doesnt seem to be any water on dipstick goin to get it pressure tested and go from there. mileage around 16900.

is the fan cutting in? I know your saying about gunk in the expansion tank but check the fan is working, unclip the block from the sensor located in the water pipe then turn on the ignition, the fan should start, if not check the wire to the fan.
