Time will tell when they will hunt reds, like you said, im not expecting the pups to run entill late january with experianced dogs. And they will only be having a few outings then. At the moment im trying to intreduce the pups to every thing as much as i can, except rabbits because there is alot around hear, and i dont want them knowing rabbit scent. This is all learning curve for me, so im happy to take any feed back. Cwn-hela

I'm no expert mate but i'm sure some of the more experienced hound men would back me up on this one...... If you don't want your charges hunting rabbits then introduce them as young as possible and let them know there nothing to worry about.

you've got a few pups about you as I can see take them out in smaller groups were there's lots of rabbit scent and be one step ahead of them . It's the same process as stock breaking. If you've older more experienced hounds then it's easier but if you have't let them know that scent is nothing to get excited about or you'll end up losing hounds on exercise just on rabbits. The worst thing is when your calling back and a rabbit get up.
