I Opened My Hw 97K To Find

Recommended Posts

hi lads im looking for some advice.

i opened up my hw97k to day and im not sure the spring is ment to look the way it did .

davey63t cut a coil of for me on my sfs 97kt and it looked shinny smooth and level this spring look terrible.

also the piston seal looks black to dark brown i used some degreaser on it to clean it a bit the groove round the front of the seal was full to the top with grease .

i have taken some pictures could anyone please advise me on these two issues

the third picture is the other end of the spring.

someone gave me another standard spring last year along with a spring guide after my delrin quide cracked and split .it was just the guide he was sending then said i may as well have the spring,

it finished better than that one that was in the 97k.

heres the thing is there a difference between a .22 spring and a .177 spring the one he sent me looks two coils shorter but it finished differently as the last two coils are level im not sure what calibre the spring he sent me is out of as i was only looking for the guide

cheers

David

hi David

the 2 top pics, the spring has been cut and not finished as it should be,3 pic the spring needs de-buring.

if you have grease in the piston seal, you can take it off and need to clean it all out! or better still order a new one?

i am not to sure whether i could tell the difference between a .22 /.177 spring?

maybe Andyfr1968 would Know.

Edit to say: in my short experiance of fettling, and reseach the spring will perform better with 27 coils,as mine do to

Sadly that's how a lot of standard HW springs look these days. The finish is shit and that's being kind.

The discolouration on the piston seal is caused by the crappy grease used at the factory migrating forward into the compression chamber causing dieselling. It seems pretty much all new HWs need a bit of TLC to get them the way they should have been to begin with. Their (and other's) quality control's really gone south in recent years.

Give it a good clean out and a proper re-lube. Dress the spring ends so that there's no rough edges and it all should be fine and if you can, seat both ends on thin stainless steel washers or shims.

Best of luck with it, David.

Cheers for the replys lads.

I have lucked out a bit a club member fitted a vmach kit to his 97 after he only had it two weeks and kept all the bits .

Im picking up a properly finished spring and seal on Sunday.

The piston looks a bit rough would you use wet and dry on it or just autosol

The comp tube is all sparkling like new but after degreasing the piston its no where near the same.

Yep..my hw95 was like that..wouldn't buy another.

Airarms tx for me if I bought a Springer

In my experience AA are no better than HW these days. Engineers seem to have taken a back seat and accountants are doing the driving. :cray:
