Gaz_1989 9,539
Does anyone on here make there own cider? I want to have a crack but don't know where to start. There is SO much info on the net it is mind blowing and a serious case of information overload. What I'm after is the very basics to get me started and then I will progress to more advanced methods later on. Cheers. Gaz

Brewman 1,192
Craft Cider Making by Andrew Lea, Real Cidermaking on a Small Scale by Michael Pooley & John Lomax, Above are recommended reading for a novice with the second one giving proper plans for a press. They are geared towards the UK/Irish reader and explain everything in simple detail. How much apples are you looking to turn into cider? As this could influence how much you need to spend because if its loads and they'll be fermenting for a while you'll need either glass or particular plastic FVs. The initial set up isn't to expensive if you're not going to be doing much. I can pm you a list of all the ingredients and a summarised time scale from one of the books. This is how much of a novice I am... I havent got a clue how many apples im thinking of using or how much cider i plan to make! And not a clue what FVs are! What is considered small scale? A few gallons? 5 Gallon maybe? That would be a good start. I will keep my eye out for them books and have a read! Thanks. And yeh please PM me a list, that would be great! Hydropotesinermis 724
Get the pooley book previously recommended. You should find it second hand on Amazon. Pretty much all you will need to know to get started is in there.
