How Did You Get Started?

Recommended Posts

Its interesting to hear how you all got going. I starting bird watching as a kid, then fishing, and a little air rifle shooting. The fire inside to be working dogs grew, and as I wasn't allowed to have a dog as a lad, its only now 20 years later I have the opportunity! I aint turning back now

My dad did a bit as a teen but nothing serious. He used to tell me stories about his ferreting days with his ferret called napoleon and I loved those stories. I started with insects and microscopes as a kid, then started to be fascinated with birds and collecting eggs about 10 to about 15. Then I realised I had a 5 year old jack Russell with a heart like a lion it would try and tackle anything from rats and rabbits to post men, cars and the local bullies the dog was a nutter. Then I fell in love with lurchers and started walking and looking after my dads friends dogs local to me. They basically became my dogs a terrier a lurcher and a spaniel so I basically had all I needed in some body else's back garden and along with my russell and i went from there. Used to be out all weekend with the pack hunting the local rabbits and then I had the odd fox on the lamp or in the brambles and decided that was what I wanted. So I started going on the trains with my friends further and further a field knocking for permission in the day then lamping in the night sleeping over In train stations and getting train home the next day, the good old days. Now I'm older and have permission and driving licence my own back full of dogs it's a different game but equally as fun. We all have different paths we take but what you learn yourself and of other people over the years have become some of the best memories I have and I wouldn't change any of them
