Hi folks.

Just sold my last restoration to fund a possible new one and I'm interested in what you guys think would be a good price to buy this old 77 for.

I spoke to the bloke already with no idea that he intended to sell and told him it would still be worth about 80 quid in its present condition.

Its about 20 years old with a good well kept stock but has a little bit of surface rust as it lives in a farm garage.

Iron sights and the trigger has dried out and doesn't work (easy job)

Its alot better looking than my last 80 i just sold before i did the work on it and is screaming for some TLC

Anyone think I'm mad parting with my hard earned maybe 70 quid at a push?

I've nothing to spend on top of this as its all in the man cave ready to fit on and reblue etc.

Its the K version and i reckon it could be stunning when finished with a nice Simmons WTC sitting in the wings ready to clamp on.

Help me out dudes.

Cheers

Chris.

Go for it mate 70 is a fair price, especially when you will have a better than brand new gun when your finished with it. and there at least 350 to buy brand new.. so the few hours labour it takes you to restore it is effectively saving you £300.. or if you sell it for about £270-£300 after its done your still making money

I know your not just doing it for the money mate hope you didn't take that the wrong way

Cheers SKot ;) not at all mate i know it was well meant.

Its good to get a bargain and if it shoots well I'll hold onto it as I'm rather obsessed with .177 and this model at the mo, i love my 80 but i can't ring out the same accuracy as i can with my 97s and i don't have the money to keep 2 80s so the refurbed one had to go.

go for it bud , bought a rough 77 a while ago for £130 with a little tidy and a service kit in it from v-mack its spot on and going nowhere . is it a carbine or full length as in full length they are nose heavy but i find it perfect for me as i love nose heavy guns

Hi Webster.

Its the carbine .177.

Very well balanced and has the old 25mm piston which i prefer.

Underneath the dirt and rust it looks so well built i really want it.

I'm going to buy it if the farmer agrees to part company as i want to try fitting some screw in buttons that will take up any slack and do the tune up on the trigger and the usual polish up.

I'm getting in touch with a guy who has a machine shop too to sort out using a proper metal lathe to make a pukka top hat and fixed into the back block spring guide in stainless for a more advanced tune, i might even port it to John Bowketts spec.

Another option I'm thinking of doing is getting a Target India compression tube and piston that have custom delrin rings to enhance its cocking and firing along with my polished and set trigger with a homemade setback trigger.

This one is going to get the works and should shoot very well if i do my job right.

Wish i had just handed over the cash today i would have been up half the night with this getting things started.

Defo fitting a SFS spring too, my new 97 has one along with a top hat and spring guide and is settling in and really consistent along with a tuned trigger unit, polished piston/comp tube and piston liner.

Can't wait to get going.

Hi Chris.

Well, you know what I'm going to say mate.

Considering how well Weihrauch rifles can restore from the most heinous neglect; and knowing what you'd be able to do to it, I'd say snap it up. :hmm: Having told him it's worth about £80 means that's what you'll have to pay but I've a feeling this is no bad deal; just for the internal condition. If she's sweet on the inside and the stock's not been buggered the rest is down to you and elbow grease!

I absolutely love HW77s. This will probably be one of the old Mk1 carbines and in .177 these were the absolute precision accurate spring rifle that gave rise to HFT. The internals and barrel will be sound so, what's on the outside can be cleaned up, ground-off and reblued.

I'd lay money there's an absolutely brilliant little rifle here, under the gunk and grime Chris. If you haven't shot with one before, you'll love how accurate she will shoot when she's all fettled and finished.

What do you think?

All the very best mate.

Simon

Edited to add.

This was the rifle that gave birth to the HW97 after all that the tuners and stock-makers had turned the HW77K into the world-beating HFT customised job it was famous for. What a rifle!
