Lannyman8 3
Hey up all, a friend of mine told me the other day that Deer that have been feeding on Oil Seed Rape are not allowed into the food chain, he said it was because of increased levels of bacteria in the Gut/Meat.... Is this true, has anyone heard it before, its new to me????? He also said it does to them what alcohol does to us, sending them a little errrrm, silly... Is he just pulling my leg or is this true????? I'm just starting so go easy on me please... regards. Chris. Quote Link to post

sussex 5,777
News to me ..what happens if the deer has been on the rape , walked 100yds away & gets shot ? Never shot one that looks pi**ed either , the only time the deer are a problem at the places I shoot is when the rape is young & green and to be fair I don't think its a favourite food , they spend a lot longer in a field of wheat or clover than rape . Lannyman8 3
It was news to me, this one just ran out straight in front of my car, it must have been half cut laying in the grass at the edge of the field.... it was a Roe Buck probably from last year.. Chris Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
at one time we used to hunt a lot of deer and the ones in areas of predominantly rape were always in good nick, plenty of condition on them and certainly not dopey or silly. seemed to hold the weight on well through the winter when feeding on rape. dont know about other species Quote Link to post
