I dont think Ive ever seen a Hobby in the wild.. I would love to see one hunting the sandmartins.

I think the magpie population also has a lot to do with our lack of small songbirds etc etc..

theres a spot near me where I ofetn see kingfishers...They are special.. I could go on all night with the birds.. Peregrines are my all time fave creature.. ive seen them a few times wild and also seen them flown with a good falconer at Partridge.. it blew my mind and is still at the top of the best things ive ever seen in my life.

Vin the picture below is from my parents back gate where I was brought up ... A pair of peregrines would nest on them cliffs every year and I would sit for hours with a pair of binos watching them ... One of the best things I seen was a pigeon being killed by a peregrin about 50 foot above my head ... Absolutely amazing .........

Its hard to explain in words..but time does stand still for that moment...and the memories last a life time.

I was watching a video of some fellas Crow hawking and gull hawking with peregrine hybrids on youtube the other day and it was almost like coursing in the sky at one point..

not the best video of falconry done withing the laws etc etc..but a very fit bird.

Seen my first Kingfisher up here this year,, was bloody magical.

Socks ,, Once had a sparrahawk part my hair after a blackbird once, in my front garden ! hahahaha

I remember years back being excited as hell after seeing my first MAGPIE !! we never had them up here till 20 odd yrs back. Green finches nested in my hedge the other year, but not seen em back yet.

My old mate used to tell me all his tales of egg collecting, like you say every egg has its own story, he was a good bit older than me mind. By the time I was a young lad in the 80's it was frowned on and we were encouraged to just spot them thru the bino's and tick em off in your book, shame really because you dont need anything like as much knowledge about the birds to do that, nesting habits/times, habitat etc. Even the old fella that took the young ornithologists club out birdwatching admitted he'd got most of his knowledge from egg collecting. He used to say that done right with care you actually save the nesting female the extra workload of feeding a full brood (one of which usually died anyway) and give the other chicks a better chance.

Great pics mate, yer dogs a belter, go's to show there is stuff you can do wi your dogs thru the summer apart from massacaring kits! (Then moaning there's no bunnies about come autumn)

Great stuff used to see a few hobby's round here after the damsel and dragonfly's, don't think I've seen one for a few years but I don't actively look for birds like I used to tbh.

I have noticed an increase in cuckoo numbers round my way of late, seen 4 in the space of mile on the weekend.

Used to spend hours as a young lad on grass banking looking to see where the skylarks landed so that I could collect there eggs { seems daft now} don't see nowhere near as many hedgerow nets as I used to, I suppose that'll be down the number of magpies, crows, and birds of prey and worst of the lot tree rats, but very very happy care free days atb Marvel :thumbs:

I gave my collection to the local museum when I was a young lad,Some of which my older mates had collected/donated and some of my own. . . Best thing was when they took me to show me where they were going to store them in the vaults..there was drawer upon drawer of every egg I had ever dreamed of touching. . I remember saying to my parents at the time.. ( huh ... its not like they needed my egg collection ! ).

I did stash 3 of my faves and often wondered what happened to that little old tin box...35 yrs ago now. . .So I guess its long gone.
