Because thats what ive always had and to keep my own breed going, never been interested in the daytime snoop always lamped
yes but why skinner ..??? ok then why not through the day ????you saying you have lamp dogs is it because theres more about at night ..or do you just like the dark ... :D whats the reason you choose lamping ???

main reason there is more stuff to run at night, people like fast action, no one likes to be out for hours on end with out a chase....game is easier on the lamp.... :doh :doh: proberbly regret saying that

lamping is exciting simply because you can hunt more ground under cover of darkness, apart from

short bursts of the beam, you can certainly catch more than during daylight hours, apart from the catch ratio of night versus daytime, there is always a thrill about sneaking about in some new uncharted/

unvisited lamping ground, never knowing what to expect, for me lamping is the certainty of knowing you could catch more yet at the same time you are not sure what the darkness holds, and when good dogs and men get together at night to engage in surreptitious activity, and escape undetected with a fair amount of quarry,we feel like we have got one over on the landowner(not condoning poaching anymore, preban of course), that's what lamping is all about,

this isn't a big factor, but i find it bloody exciting when you flick the lamp on and you have no idea what you might find until its there. The mystery of the dark has a big appeal...as well as them sitting further out so more chance of a slip as has been said. But my experience is only going out with mates so i haven't lived it yet

Because where i work the dogs you rarely see rabbits out through the day and if they are, they are right near their sets. The only way to get them daytime would be ferreting. So if you want a trip out for the dogs to catch anything it has to be night time.

Plus i absolutley love that feeling of being totally on my own with the dog, so tuned in to everything around me, in hunting mode. Cant really explain the feeling properly.

You will never take more game with a dog than when lamping unless youve a dog that can work a longnet of course :D

Plus dont your permission grow as darkness falls

Dont know about being easier, there is certainly more stuff to race..but there were dogs up here that found it difficult to kill a hare on the lamp, but went down the fens and killed 3`s, 4`s and 5`s in the daylight..

There are things easier, or just as easy as lamping, ferreting, now any dog can catch rabbits bolted into open ground, and corn cuttings, we used to go to corn cuttings for hares before lamping came in, and dogs were brought out of retirement just for this, dogs that I doubt would be able to kill a hare in any other hunting form.

I lamp cos I absolutely love it, Ive done everything hunting wise, and no other sport gives me the same buzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Ive always been a profit hunter, so bigger bags helped, and the thrill of not knowing what your going to see when you switch that lamp on..etc, etc..

When Ive lamped, 90% of my life has been poaching, this adds to the thrill, well for me personally..For some lads its just a phase, or a bandwagon to temporary jump on till something else lights their candle, but for some, like me, its just in you..At my peak I lamped all year round, just couldnt get enough of it

Most of the people on here are youngish, so youve always had lamping, your so, so lucky..I worked dogs before lamping, so I know what it was like before it came in..Little thistle whippets, killing one or two rabbits a month, if a dog killed half a dozen on an outing it was the talk of the place, a world beater...

Lamping...Fecking great :toast:

we lamp ?????????????

1 the quarry is easier :hmm:

2 theres more about at night :D

3 less people about late on ...so less chance of getting caught B)

4 all the above :whistling:

5 any other reason :o

the reason most people go lamping is ,there dogs cannot catch anything in the day. :D

I served my time long netting, with some of the best long netters in Northumberland. My dad took me out at night for the first time when I was 5, we used to get to awkward lamping spots in late afternoon, and bed down and wait for the dark..No dogs allowed, just the cord, as it was numbers these guys were after..and we certainly got some good bags. Lamping with dogs will get more rabbits than the best of the best long netters..Ive never had the numbers Ive had lamping with dogs when Ive been long netting (sorry about talking about numbers for those who dont like numbers, but people arnt going to long net at night for one for the pot) plus, lamping is much more fun, and less hard work
