I have kept birds in box cages before, goldfinch , Siskin greenfinch and canaries, had a little success with breeding them, Siskin mules and canary.now I have an avery which is hexagonal in shape, about six foot across both ways and high also, I would like to pup british in but am unsure how many and compatable , maybe canary hens if better option, any advice appreciated.

The thing about that many is what you going to do and where you going to put the youngsters if they breed,2 pairs and a canary hen could produce 20 odd young in a season if they got to it and unless you have the means to deal with those then don't bother with so many to start with imo.A pair of siskins and goldies would do ok in there on there own and they'd just have their own hens to court and worry about and your'll learn plenty from watching 2 pairs going about their nesting and rearing, adding extra canary hens could produce a nest of mules or two but it could also bring the two cocks together fighting over the spare hen when their own hens are sitting on a nest and both siskins and goldie cocks are known for messing with eggs so also another pontental battle ground for them but your doing the right thing finding out first than just going and getting them then finding out through dead or injured birds they don't or won't get on. :victory:
