oneredtrim 148
Wiggo's resting heartbeat was a mean average of 33bpm last year....if we're talking fittness in the true sense of the word then that takes some topping from any sport (that said me training partner once hit 28bpm/only the once mind). Lots of fit footballers/and other sportsmen tained with Colin Bell and often told they could get nowhere near him, he was a freak (take off into the sunset when everyone was spent-proper strength/not the bicep type) his bpm was 44...was why they christened him nijinsky

Ideation 8,216
What about Ultra marathons, or serious mountain climbing? Or just climbing in general.
Brewman 1,192
How about the skin divers who go to dodgy depths with no apparatus. I read of one chap in a fhm type mag he could get his heart rate down to 8 bpm.
socks 32,253
Every sport uses different muscle groups and needs different levels of maximum output and recovery time so it would be impossible to say which sport requires the most fitness ..............

gnasher16 30,256
A lot of folk are saying boxing.....but boxing is a very different type of fitness as you are absolutely peaking your body for a 36 minute contest twice maybe three times per year.......tennis players dont peak to the same level but are playing a match up to 3 hours every few days for a tournament like Wimbledon.........then again footballers/rugby players are extremely fit as are marathon runners triathletes etc......its an impossible question as an athlete is as fit as his sport needs him to be.
